Flashback: When X-Rated Stormy Daniels Was Media’s ‘Feminist Hero’

Former President Trump was in a courtroom this week to face (weak) charges rooted in a story the media first pounced on five years ago. Back in 2018, viewers saw frenzied coverage of porn celebrity Stormy Daniels and her sensational allegations, a clear partisan contrast with how the networks censored or denigrated the many (non-porn) women who in the 1990s leveled allegations against Democratic President Bill Clinton.

‘Savages’: Ukrainian resort town resisting Russian attempts to repeat past glories

The view from the Ukrainian town of Ochakiv appears idyllic. Beyond the beach, a narrow strip of land stretches out across the sea. The peninsula in Mykolaiv province is known as the Kinburn spit. In happier times holidaymakers would take a boat from Ochakiv and camp among the dunes. The nature reserve is home to swans, pelicans and migrating birds.

Why are undocumented Gujaratis migrating to the US?

Authorities announced last week that the four bodies recovered from the St. Lawrence River in Akwesasne, a Mohawk reserve wedged between the Canada-US border, were of people who came from a village in the Mehsana district of Gujarat, in western India.

The family of four, Praveen Chaudhary, 50, his wife Diksha, 45, and their children, Vidhi, 23, and Mitkumar, 20, attempted to enter the US from Canada by boat across the St. Lawrence River, police said. They are believed to have reached Canada on a tourist visa in February.

Macron says Europe must not be ‘follower’ of US, China on Taiwan

French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview published Sunday that Europe must not be a “follower” of either the US or China on Taiwan, saying that the bloc risks entanglement in “crises that aren’t ours”.

His comments risk riling Washington and highlight divisions in the European Union over how to approach China, as the US steps up confrontation with its closest rival and Beijing draws closer to Russia in the wake of its invasion of Ukraine.

Surge in Hindu vigilante mobs who ‘attack and kill’ beef-eating Muslims

India is seeing a surge in Hindu vigilante groups violently targeting Muslims for eating beef, with one leader vowing to protect cows “as if they are our daughters and mothers”.

The slaughter of the bovine animals – which are considered holy in Hinduism – is already banned in 20 out of India’s 28 states, and police can make an arrest without a warrant.

Most of the states ruled by India’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have established vigilante squads made up of government officials and private citizens to implement the ban

Proud Boys leader was in touch with DC police for months before J6

The trial of Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio over his alleged role in the January 6 Capitol Hill riot has taken some odd twists and turns thus far. That pattern continued this week when his attorney introduced text messages showing that Tarrio had been in regular communications with a D.C. Metropolitan Police officer for more than a year prior to the riot. He had regularly exchanged information with Shane Lamond, a seasoned veteran of the D.C. Police. The texts reveal that Tarrio answered questions and shared the group’s plans, with Lamond passing the information on to his superiors and sharing it with the Capitol Hill Police as well. It’s unclear how receptive the court will be to this argument, but this revelation certainly raises some interesting questions.

Carlson proclaimed that the left, specifically the Biden administration, promoted the transgenderism movement with what he described as “religious extremists.”

Techno-Hell: AI Firm Scrapes 30 Billion Social Media Photos, Hands Them to Law Enforcement

One of the most notorious privacy-breaching tech companies in operation, Clearview AI, has, according to its CEO, scraped 30 billion social media photos, packaged and curated them, and passed them along to the surveillance state authorities to do with what they will (in the dark, with no oversight, naturally, as the Founders warned such authorities would if left unchecked).

Swedish Police Appeal Court Decision Overturning Their Ban On Quran-Burning Protests

Swedish police, in a press release published on Thursday, April 6th, announced that they had appealed the decision by Sweden’s Court of Administrative Law to overturn a decision by the policing authority to ban Quran-burning protests.

“The police authority believes that the issue is fundamentally important and that it is, therefore, urgent that it be examined by a higher authority,” the Swedish police wrote on their website.

Not for the police to make such a ruling.

One in three Canadians in ‘bad’ or ‘terrible’ financial shape, up from pandemic highs: Angus Reid survey

One in three Canadians say they are struggling financially due to the high cost of living, a level not seen since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, a recent survey from the Angus Reid Institute finds.

The survey of 1,600 Canadians, released on Thursday, found that 34 per cent of Canadians are in “bad” or “terrible” shape financially, up six percentage points from last July.

Read the comments in r/canadahousing I don’t recall this level of pessimism & defeat ever before in Canada.

Texted my niece this morning she lives in the Pontiac where I am from in PQ. They are still without power in her her little village from last week’s storm, lines are literally down in the street. Hydro Quebec does not consider them a priority over more populated areas.

I wonder if reader Raftsman has power he is nearby.

GOLDSTEIN: Chattering class can’t handle truth about Trudeau’s carbon tax

As Upton Sinclair famously said, “It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.”

That has been on full display among the chattering classes in Ottawa of late among politicians, rent-seekers and special interest groups whose political and economic fortunes depend on the public believing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s carbon tax will do what he says it will do.
