French minister Marlene Schiappa appears on front cover of Playboy

Can posing for Playboy be a feminist statement? A French government minister thinks so and has defended her decision to appear — clothed — on the front cover of the notorious magazine.

Marlene Schiappa, a 40-year-old feminist author who was plucked from obscurity by President Emmanuel Macron in 2017, is no stranger to controversy and has repeatedly angered rightwingers.

Article 49.3 of the French Constitution enables a government to push a bill through the National Assembly, France’s lower house of Parliament, without a vote. That’s how Macron got his pension reform bill through triggering weeks of violent riots.

How a Canadian judge erred in ordering the repatriation of suspected ISIS members

In a January 2023 Federal Court decision, the government of Canada was ordered to request repatriation of four suspected ISIS members currently being held in Syria.

Lawrence Greenspon, who represents three of the detainees, said the decision “covered all the bases and covered them well” and that an appeal would therefore be difficult for the government to pursue. Similarly, socialist activist Matthew Behrens described the decision as an “important ruling with global human rights implications.”

Nonetheless, the federal government is appealing the decision and oral arguments were recently held at the Federal Court of Appeal in Toronto.

Moment Putin war propagandist ‘is handed statue containing bomb minutes before it blows him to bits in St Petersburg café’

A Russian war propagandist who called for the destruction of Ukraine was killed in a bomb attack in St Petersburg.

Video shows the moment pro-Putin cheerleader Vladlen Tatarsky, whose real name is Maxim Fomin, was handed a statuette of himself by an unnamed woman that was believed to have contained the explosive just minutes before he was blown to bits at the political event in the cafe.

Around 100 people were at the event, with at least 25 injured by the blast and four in a critical condition.

Douglas Todd: BCTF delegates reject call to respond to drop in male teachers

These days a gorilla probably stands a better chance of being admitted to a teacher’s college than a humanoid male.

B.C. Teachers’ Federation leaders are showing scant interest in responding to the way the proportion of male teachers has declined to one in four.

Last month, delegates to the BCTF convention rejected a motion to “take steps to redress the increase in gender disparity in the teaching profession, such as engaging members through a task force.”

The BCTF is not alone in showing little concern for the fall in male teachers. That’s despite a band of North American advocates maintaining male teachers could provide positive role models for boys, who are doing increasingly poorly in kindergarten to Grade 12. Young men, in addition, now account for less than 40 per cent of those in higher education.

A worthwhile initiative as they say but one doomed to fail.

The only type of male likely to be granted a spot in a teacher’s college today is probably a drag queen.

Bragg won’t charge wounded NYC garage worker who shot suspected thief

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg will not prosecute the parking-garage attendant who shot a suspected thief after getting wounded himself, the DA’s office told The Post on Sunday.

Moussa Diarra, 57, was shot twice by alleged thief Charles Rhodie, 59, early Saturday before turning the tables on the suspect and pumping a bullet into him with the accused criminal’s handgun, authorities said.

Yet cops charged Diarra with attempted murder, assault and gun possession in the case, while Rhodie was slapped with those three raps as well as burglary.

Barbara Kay: Women are fuelling the crisis of wokeism on campus, and in society

An Angus Reid poll that canvassed the voting intentions of 5,000 Canadians from March 6-13 uncovered a wide gender gap between Conservative and Liberal supporters. Overall, the Liberals trail (29 per cent to 35 per cent). But while a plurality of men say they would vote Conservative if an election were held tomorrow, 44 per cent of women under 35 say they would vote for the NDP and 42 per cent of women over 55 intend to vote Liberal.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has his work cut out for him on that front. But he should understand that it’s got nothing to do with him personally. Numerous studies have concluded that educated women trend ideologically leftward at greater rates than men.

UK: Ethnicity of so called “Asian” child rapist grooming gangs cannot be ignored, police told

Political correctness must no longer prevent the police from using the ethnicity of suspects to identify grooming gangs, Rishi Sunak will say on Monday.

Asian grooming gangs will no longer be allowed to “evade justice because of cultural sensitivities”, a government spokesman said ahead of the unveiling of a package of measures designed to crack down on organised networks of abusers.

The Prime Minister will order police forces to improve the recording and analysis of ethnicity data – including sharing information throughout the country – in an attempt to prevent perpetrators of abuse from falling through the net.

Ruinous blackouts threaten to end ANC rule in South Africa

When the power started going out daily in South Africa, the lights also went out on Lungie Klaas’s coffee shop. He and his wife had poured in £14,700 of savings to get their business off the ground, and their hard work had been rewarded with a decent trade among the morning commuters in their Cape Town suburb.

That was until relentless rolling blackouts started hitting each day at their busiest time. At a stroke, coffee machines could not work during their peak business hours and they lost three-fifths of their custom. Running a generator was too expensive, so they had to close. “That put four guys out of a job,” he recalls.

Translating Liberalspeak

Liberals often talk about things but actually mean other things. For example, “trans rights” really means elevating the trans agenda to unearned prominence and insisting people pay attention. It is not about giving trans people “rights.” They have the same rights everyone else has. They just want more. “Trans rights” also means shoveling cartloads of money into trans causes.

The Kids Are All Woke

The revolution’s biggest targets are also its smallest.

In my last year of graduate school, when I was plodding away at my dissertation and, although every day more disillusioned with academia, hadn’t yet decided for sure that I didn’t want to be an English professor after all, I attended the Modern Language Association convention at a Manhattan hotel to interview for a faculty job in Georgia. I met my interviewer in his room. We sat on his bed. It was weird. I felt like a hooker. He told me his area of specialization – I don’t remember what it was. Mine was modernism. He started with a simple query: “What’s modernism, anyway?”

Ukraine’s survival hinges on Avdiivka

As Russia has intensified efforts to envelop the fortified town of Avdiivka, Ukraine’s military has this week insisted that its opponents are failing to make progress. Avdiivka’s strategic importance was highlighted earlier this month when President Volodymyr Zelenskyy name-checked it alongside other eastern battlegrounds like Bakhmut and Vuhledar as a place where “the future of all Ukrainians is being fought for”.

The British working class is what real anti-racism looks like

It is the elites who are obsessed with race and division.

… One of the most poisonous projects of the past decade has been the ID-pol brigade’s attempt to drive a wedge between the races, rather than stick to a sensible Marxist class analysis of power. So it was refreshing to hear Smallman rejecting every invitation she was given to speak in a racially divisive manner.

First, Smallman willingly gave up her special victim status by boldly stating that the white working class also suffers from police brutality. She brought up grooming gangs as the prime example of this. Smallman rightly pointed out that the police demonised the raped and trafficked white children involved, rather than take on their Muslim exploiters.

Undercover investigation exposes plan by up to 100 Animal Rebellion activists to storm Grand National Steeplechase

Seriously they should encourage them to block the course.

A secret plot by more than 100 eco-activists to sabotage the Grand National has been exposed by an undercover Mail on Sunday investigation.

Militant vegans and animal rights campaigners plan to use ladders and bolt cutters to storm security fences before the race at Aintree, then glue themselves together as a human barricade and sit across the course.

The conspiracy – revealed just two weeks before the race meeting – was uncovered by an MoS reporter posing as a member of the Animal Rebellion campaign group.
