Don’t be afraid of AI – it’s going to change your life

Whether its picking movies or providing mental health support, the latest tech is the biggest step forward since the printing press

It’s a battle that’s fought every Saturday evening, in homes across the land: what film will be an enjoyable watch for the whole family? The debate can rage for hours, frequently leads to tears, and more often that not, the screen stays silent.

No longer, however. Fancy something similar to, but different from, The Lord of the Rings? Now you only have to turn to ChatGPT for a ream of insightful suggestions. One colleague tried it recently with her children aged six, nine and 12 and her 44-year-old husband. “Something like Narnia” they requested. And lo, the chatbot suggested The Golden Compass, an adaptation of Philip Pullman’s Northern Lights, starring Nicole Kidman. That doesn’t say much for ChatGPT’s taste in movies – the film has a fairly dire 43 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes – but the recommendation turned out to be a good one. Arguments miraculously averted, popcorn happily consumed. Technology is the stuff of small miracles.

With Trump Indictment, Revisit 20 Times Leftists Melted Down Over ‘Lock Her Up’ Hillary Gibe

With the indictment of former President Donald Trump, the U.S. has entered the “era of police-state politics,” as The Federalist’s Margot Cleveland put it Friday morning. The prosecution and expected arrest of a former president — and likely presidential challenger — is a serious thing, made all the more outrageous by the nakedly political nature of New York D.A. Alvin Bragg’s mission. Bragg appears to be ginning up a criminal probe out of a possible campaign finance issue that federal prosecutors had already declined to pursue.

An inside look at who’s working behind the scenes for those running to be Toronto’s next mayor

A pioneer of controversial right-wing social media campaigns. The mastermind behind Kathleen Wynne’s ambitious policies. Stephen Harper’s advertising guru. A Polaris Prize-winning musician.

They’re all among the growing list of people working on Toronto mayoral campaigns.

No mention of Furey in this article which seems a deliberate “oversight”.

I would trust him to be the most conservative of contenders.

It’s an open secret Saunders is Ford’s choice. That’s good enough reason for me to park my vote elsewhere. Who wants another squishy liberal?

Kelly McParland: Chrystia Freeland’s budget is gas for the inflation fire

The funny thing about Chrystia Freeland’s latest budget is that everyone knew what she was going to do, even as she gave speeches insisting she wasn’t going to do it.

What everyone expected was that she would announce a big plan to spend billions and billions more dollars on top of the hundreds of billions the Trudeau government has already borrowed and spent in its seven years of power. The Liberals don’t have the new billions any more than they had the previous billions. They just borrow it. Since 2015 the Trudeau Liberals have spent at least $500 billion they didn’t have, almost doubling the debt of all the prime ministers that went before them.

The interim commissioner of the RCMP says he would support additional laws that allow police to further crack down on foreign interference in Canada, as well as ways to further collaborate with intelligence officials on the issue.

But Mike Duheme adds multiple investigations remain underway that he’s confident will lead to criminal charges, though he did not give specifics.

Surrounded and outgunned, Ukraine’s tank crews prepare for battle of Bakhmut

It is 10 minutes’ walk from the nearest Ukrainian village in the country’s eastern Donbas region, and the only clue to what lies around the corner are the deep track marks through the grass. A minute further, in the wooded valley beyond, is a cluster of tanks, nestling, concealed among the trees. Alongside are their crews, waiting and preparing, amid talk that a Ukrainian counteroffensive is on its way.

The youngest is Danill, who is particularly eager to talk. He is 21, already a lieutenant. A recent graduate of Lviv’s army academy, he helped in the defence of Kyiv, guarding an approach road with a rocket-propelled grenade before finishing his course. Then, a month ago, he joined the elite 214th Opfor battalion. The armoured unit has been operating for months in defence of Bakhmut city, but incomer Danill, a junior tank commander, has yet to see the fierce combat there.

The Guardian’s self-laceration is embarrassing to watch

The Guardian is currently engaged in an orgy of sanctimonious breast-beating. After two years’ research commissioned by its proprietor, the Scott Trust, it has discovered that its founding editor John Edward Taylor and some of his backers had ‘extensive links’ to slavery. This has caused something like a nervous breakdown in the paper’s York Way offices. The editor, Katharine Viner, writes that the revelation made her ‘sick to my stomach’. The paper’s staff are said to be ‘tormented’ by the thought. There have been abject public apologies, promises of amendment, and all the usual apparatus of cringing self-laceration.

Musk says the NYTimes’ ‘propaganda isn’t even interesting’ and their Twitter feed is the ‘equivalent of diarrhea’ as he takes a swipe at the Gray Lady after it declined to pay $8 monthly verification fee

Elon Musk has launched yet another attack on The New York Times just as Twitter removed the publication’s verified check mark.

In multiple tweets he said the publication was guilty of publishing boring ‘propaganda’ and said its feed was like ‘diarrhea’ because it put out too many tweets.

‘The real tragedy of [The New York Times] is that their propaganda isn’t even interesting,’ wrote Musk early on Sunday morning. ‘Also, their feed is the Twitter equivalent of diarrhea. It’s unreadable,’ he added.

The Dutch government has agreed to pause its plan to drastically cut nitrogen-based emissions after a pro-farming party delivered a major upset in provincial elections.

TikTok: America’s Do-Or-Die Moment with China

Adi Robertson, The Verge’s senior tech and policy editor, makes an impassioned plea to not ban TikTok, China’s popular video-sharing app, on free speech grounds. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), speaking on the floor of the Senate on March 29, also raised First Amendment objections to a proposed TikTok prohibition.

Nonetheless, it is time to either ban TikTok or force the sale of all its shares to American parties. The American owners must also control all the app’s algorithms, in particular, the algorithms curating content. If Beijing does not permit such a sale, the federal government should expropriate TikTok.

Bill Maher and J.K. Rowling Are Asking Questions About Transgenderism That Many on the Left Won’t

A Gallup poll from lasted year found that the percentage of Americans identifying as LGBT increases with each generation, with less than 1% of those born before 1946, 2.6% of Baby Boomers, 4.2% of Generation X, 10.5% of millennials, and 20.8% of Gen Z. Does that look organic? Of course, it doesn’t; it’s a social contagion. Even left-wing comedian Bill Maher recognizes what’s happening: that being LGBT, particularly transgender, is trendy.
