Yes, environmentalists want to take your car away — just slowly

Non-Californians were treated to an amusing spectacle last summer. In the Gilded State, it wasn’t so funny.

California’s electrical utilities, you may recall, had to beg the state’s residents not to charge their electric vehicles at night because it was putting too much stress on the state’s fragile grid and potentially forcing rolling blackouts. This urgent request came six days after California passed a new regulation banning the sale of gasoline-powered vehicles beginning in 2035.

Are offshore wind farms responsible for recent whale deaths?

When I was a kid, I remember environmentalists being utterly obsessed with “saving the whales.”  So where are all these whale-loving environmentalists when you really need them?

Over the past two months, eight whales have washed ashore across New Jersey and New York beaches.  Coincidentally or not, the major uptick in deaths of these majestic mammals also happens to be occurring as construction has begun for Empire Wind, a massive offshore wind farm located in the very same waters.

Irony: Might AI replace many people in Hollywood?

Much of the current buzz in the tech sector these days revolves around advances in artificial intelligence and where and when it might start replacing human beings in their jobs. While the creators of these tools keep assuring us that it won’t happen, plenty of examples have already turned up. Google recently administered an employment examination to ChatGPT for a coding job and it qualified for a third-level position earning almost $200K to start. A judge in Columbia recently used AI to write a judgment in a case. And CNET has already been found to be using the technology to write and publish financial articles.

Not sure if people will ever give up their meat-world idols entirely but AI could certainly gain a slice of the entertainment world.

The Guardian’s links to the slave trade

Its founding myth depends on moral contortionism

The Guardian prides itself on being one of the most Left-leaning and anti-racist news outlets in the English-speaking world. So imagine its embarrassment when, last month, a number of black podcast producers researching the paper’s historic ties to slavery abruptly resigned, alleging they had been victims of “institutional racism”, “editorial whiteness”, “microaggressions, colourism, bullying, passive-aggressive and obstructive management styles”. All of this might smack of progressive excess, but, in reality, it merely reflects an institution incuriously at odds with itself.

The IRS Came After Pro-Israel Groups, But Protected Hamas

“Come navigate the fine line between legal activism and material support for terrorism.”

David Boim was only 17 years old when he was shot and killed while waiting at a bus stop north of Jerusalem. The American teenager’s parents, Stanley and Joyce, have spent a quarter of a century since trying to bring Hamas, the Islamic terror group behind the attack, and its funders in the United States to justice. Their lawsuits have targeted, among others, the Holy Land Foundation which was found in federal court to have provided “material aid to Hamas” in what became the largest terrorism financing prosecution case in the United States.

The retreat from globalism

People don’t want to be squelched by big business or big government.

In the wake of liberal globalism’s failings, a nationalist tide is rising today, not only in China and Russia but also throughout the West. It is a dynamic eerily similar to 100 years ago, when war, pandemic and economic insecurity brought national tensions to the surface. Yet today’s undoubted turn against globalism need not herald a return to the dark days of aggressive nationalism. Instead, we are seeing the rise of a new community-based and self-governing model of localism.

Military Investigates Mother for Facebook Post Objecting to LGBT Banners

New Jersey mom Angela Reading didn’t expect a single Facebook post would deem her a “security threat” in the opinion of U.S. military officials.

But it has, military documents confirm.

“They’ve created this image of me—that I’m some sort of domestic terrorist—because I don’t want sexual posters hanging on the wall in an elementary school,” she told The Epoch Times.

Sabrina Maddeaux: John Tory helmed Toronto’s decade of undeniable decline

In 1991, Japan began its lost decade — in 2014, Toronto entered one of its own. This is when John Tory’s election as mayor initiated a yawning stretch of undeniable decline. Perhaps, with his resignation, the city still has a chance.

On Friday night, shockwaves reverberated across the country as the Toronto Star first reported Tory engaged in an affair with a 31-year-old staffer. Then, just about an hour later, Tory did something politicians simply don’t do anymore: resign.

On the surface, it was a stunning turn of events for a mayor whose entire brand was being boring. After the tumultuous Rob Ford years, scandal-weary Torontonians would’ve elected drywall if they could. In Tory, they elected the next best thing.

Fingerprints of Unvaccinated NYC Teachers Flagged to FBI

On February 8, 2023, while arguing on behalf of fired NYC workers who declined covid vaccination, attorney John Bursch stated in open court that unvaccinated teachers in New York City were flagged with problem codes in their personnel files, and when that occurred “their fingerprints are sent with that flag to the FBI and the New York Criminal Justice Services.”

Lt.-Gen. Michel Maisonneuve (ret’d): Once again, Canada fails on the world stage

The news out of Turkey and Syria is horrible. As of the time of writing, the death toll from the earthquakes there has reached more than 23,000 and no one thinks it has peaked.

The devastation is overwhelming. It is almost impossible to reconcile the piles of rubble with the apartment buildings, places of worship and historical treasures they once were, even with the graphic photos of before and after provided by those on the ground.

Why are western nations always expected to bail out Muslim states?

Quake Devastation Tied to Turkey’s Failure to Enforce Building Codes

ISTANBUL — Turkey has for years tempted fate by not enforcing modern construction codes while allowing — and in some cases, encouraging — a real estate boom in earthquake-prone areas, experts say.

The lax enforcement, which experts in geology and engineering have long warned about, is gaining renewed scrutiny in the aftermath of this week’s devastating earthquakes, which flattened thousands of buildings and killed more than 22,700 people across Turkey and Syria.

“This is a disaster caused by shoddy construction, not by an earthquake,” said a professor of emergency planning at University College London, David Alexander.

NORAD shoots down ‘unidentified object’ over Yukon

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has shot down an unidentified object in Canadian airspace, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Saturday.

“I ordered the take down of an unidentified object that violated Canadian airspace. [NORAD] shot down the object over the Yukon. Canadian and U.S. aircraft were scrambled, and a U.S. F-22 successfully fired at the object,” Trudeau said in a statement on Twitter.

“I spoke with President Biden this afternoon. Canadian Forces will now recover and analyze the wreckage of the object,” he said.

Junior ordered squat. Biden’s handlers took pity & decided to let him sound important.

Disinformation Inc: Watchdogs blast State Department for funding group blacklisting conservative media

Watchdog groups have raised concerns over the State Department bankrolling a “disinformation” tracking group that is secretly blacklisting and trying to defund conservative media outlets.

The Washington Examiner revealed on Thursday that the Global Disinformation Index, a British organization with two affiliated U.S. nonprofit groups, is hauling in cash with the intent of defunding and shutting down disfavored speech. Now, several watchdogs are calling out the State Department for funding this group , which is feeding its blacklist to major ad companies.

‘Till‘ Actress Danielle Deadwyler Blames Oscars Snub on ‘Misogynoir‘ and People ‘Who Are Living in Whiteness‘

Actress Danielle Deadwyler missed out on an Oscar nomination this year for her performance in Till despite Hollywood pundits predicting she was a lock. Now the actress is blaming the snub on a combination of racism and sexism — or “misogynoir,” the woke term meaning prejudice against black women.
