A father of three was shot and killed after an altercation involving several “squeegee kids” in downtown Baltimore. Timothy Reynolds, a 48-year-old mechanical engineer, was shot to death after confronting a group of teens and young men with a baseball bat.

Parents and educators in the Russian-occupied areas of southern Ukraine say the occupation authorities are using blackmail to compel them to cooperate with pro-Moscow schools being created for the coming academic year.
Sources tell RFE/RL’s Ukrainian Service that the occupation authorities are telling parents that they could lose their parental rights if they do not acquire Russian passports and send their children to the designated schools.
Highland Park shooter Bobby Crimo III reportedly tried to kill himself at least twice in front of friends – only for his father to allegedly block a concerned local who flagged his suicidal tendencies in a private Facebook message.
Former friends and parents have now revealed the lonely child experienced a ‘downward spiral’ and had attempted suicide and talked about overdosing.
A mother of two of Crimo’s skatepark friends, who asked to remain anonymous, said the 21-year-old used to come to her home often in 2016 and 2017.

More than twice as many people believe Canada is on the wrong track, as opposed to the right one, when it comes to becoming a more united country, a new survey from Nanos Research shows.
The survey, commissioned by CTV News, asked Canadians their opinions on whether Canada is on the right track to achieving two objectives: building a united country and creating prosperity for the future.
Half of those surveyed believed Canada is on the wrong track to uniting the country compared to 22 per cent who believe it is on the right one. Twenty-eight per cent were unsure.

An abortion-related horror story out of Ohio is not what it seems
You must have seen the horrific story reported out of Ohio. A 10-year-old child became pregnant through sexual abuse. Under the new post-Roe abortion laws in Ohio, she is ineligible for a termination because she was found to be six weeks and three days pregnant.
Elon Musk’s offer to buy Twitter was initially met with resistance.
In fact, Twitter evoked a “poison pill” provision to stop Musk from forcibly buying the company.
Eventually the company accepted the offer – a deal that Musk greeted with a one word tweet. “Yesss!!!”
The objective of any nuclear deal with a rogue state ought to be anchored in completely and permanently halting that regime from obtaining nuclear weapons. The objective should not be to further empower and embolden it, or to facilitate it becoming a nuclear state.

Thousands of protesters in the Sri Lankan city of Colombo have stormed the president’s residence and taken over his administrative offices amid growing calls for him to resign.
In extraordinary scenes, protesters who had gathered on the streets of Colombo to demand President Gotabaya Rajapaksa steps down as the country continues to struggle through its worst economic crisis since independence, charged into the president’s official residence on Saturday morning.
The president was not at home, having fled the night before and taken into military protection. His location was unknown on Saturday amid rumours he was fleeing the country.

Protests sweeping the Netherlands have escalated in the space of a little over a week, as Dutch farmers fight back against destructive policies ostensibly put in place to fight climate change. The effects of these new policies will greatly reduce Dutch agricultural output. This is no small problem, as the Netherlands ranks as Planet Earth’s second-largest food exporter, and the largest in the European Union (EU). This comes at a time when global famine pressures have already been building, and civil unrest in the Netherlands and war in Ukraine will only exacerbate those pressures.
TORONTO — Ontario Premier Doug Ford is planning to raise immigration and skilled labour shortage issues at a meeting of premiers from across the country next week in Victoria.
The meeting is set to largely focus on health-care issues, with premiers hoping to press the government for increased Canada Health Transfer Funding.
Single companies lacking 700 staff? I am skeptical of the numbers Fordo is throwing around. This sounds more like a wage suppression gambit than a labour shortage.

For retired child-care worker Kim Agnew, inflation means putting TV dinners in her cart instead of meat.
“It’s terrible. It was $13.50 for a pack of chicken thighs, but the frozen dinners were only five bucks. So I had to do what I had to do,” said the 67-year-old after her regular shop at the Superstore on Brimley Rd. in Scarborough.
“Forget the boneless, skinless that I used to eat,” she said as she schlepped her bags across the bridge over Highway 401 on her way home.
