Multiple people stabbed in downtown Vancouver, suspect shot

Multiple people have been hurt in a stabbing rampage in Vancouver, cops have said.

Vancouver Police said officers were responding to a ‘violent incident’ near Robson Street and Hamilton Street in the city’s downtown just after 3pm on Wednesday.

‘A number of people have been stabbed, and the suspect has been shot by police. We’ll provide more info when it’s available,’ the department said on X.

That last bit made me laugh out loud.

FBI gets involved after mysterious car-sized ‘drones’ reported near Trump New Jersey golf resort

People in the Garden State’s Morris and Somerset counties, where President-elect Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf course is located, have been notifying law enforcement since November about the mysterious flying objects, which are larger than typical hobbyist drones.

Roughly 40 miles west of New York City in Somerset County, Trump’s Bedminster private golf resort was one of his favored retreats from the White House during his first term in office. Now, residents in the area have reported repeated sightings of hundreds of aircraft resembling “small car-sized drones,” per multiple media reports.

First Nations want Impact Assessment Act review for massive carbon capture project in Alberta

Eight First Nations in Alberta are asking that the massive carbon capture and storage project proposed by a consortium of oilsands companies be reviewed under the federal Impact Assessment Act.

The First Nations say the project proposed by the Pathways Alliance is “massive” and “unprecedented” and poses potential risks to both the environment and human health.

‘I Am Traumatized’: Migrants In Mexico Choosing To Turn Around After Trump’s Election Victory

Between 50 to 100 Venezuelan nationals in Mexico are now requesting what is known as “voluntary return” every week, according to a Venezuelan official that spoke with Reuters, who added that many of these migrants have faced perilous situations in Mexico, such as kidnappings and sexual exploitation. A dozen migrants in Mexico told the news outlet that they would prefer to go back to their home countries, despite whatever issues that drove them to leave in the first place.

Sweden and Finland want citizens to be prepared for war. Should Canada do the same?

As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine approaches its third year, nearby Nordic countries like Sweden and Finland are preparing their citizens to survive during a military conflict. Should Canada be doing the same?

“If Sweden is attacked, everyone must do their part to defend Sweden’s independence – and our democracy,” a new pamphlet from Sweden’s government(opens in a new tab) states. “You are part of Sweden’s overall emergency preparedness.”

The 32-page document entitled “In case of crisis or war” was published in November and distributed to every household in Sweden. It explains that Swedish citizens and foreign residents ages 16 to 70 are “part of Sweden’s total defence and required to serve in the event of war.”

Daniel Penny jury requests key trial evidence as they inch towards verdict in famous subway chokehold case

On Tuesday night, they asked for a second read through of what is considered justifiable. The judge has asked them to acquit Penny unless they can determine that his actions were unjustifiable.

They are weighing manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide charges against Daniel Penny who used a fatal chokehold to restrain Jordan Neely on the New York City subway.

Transgender rights case lands at U.S. Supreme Court amid debate over ban on medical treatments for minors

The Supreme Court is hearing arguments Wednesday in just its second major transgender rights case, which is a challenge to a Tennessee law that bans gender-affirming care for minors.

The justices’ decision, not expected for several months, could affect similar laws enacted by another 25 states and a range of other efforts to regulate the lives of transgender people, including which sports competitions they can join and which bathrooms they can use.
