FUREY: Public officials have failed to prepare Canadians for COVID-19

Many healthcare professionals agree that having an active and physical lifestyle, taking Vitamin D and other lifestyle choices can lessen the chance of a serious outcome if infected with COVID-19. In fact, the UK government sent its citizens free vitamin D supplements.

Meanwhile, public officials in Canada have never discussed these lifestyle choices. As a result, many Canadians are unaware and unprepared for COVID-19.

Canadians warming to prisoner swap with China, split on balancing budget: Nanos survey

TORONTO — New polling data from Nanos Research, commissioned by CTV News, reveals Canadians’ thoughts on the upcoming federal budget, carbon pricing and the idea of returning Meng Wanzhou to China in exchange for the freedom of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor.

On the latter point, Nanos found that far more Canadians are in favour of the prisoner swap than they were when that idea was floated last June.

Slowly but surely the government is gathering the media into its ghastly embrace

I don’t want to alarm you, but you might like to know that the federal government is about to take over the media.

Perhaps you will think I am exaggerating. But before the spring is out, based on its own announced timeline, there won’t be a patch of grass on the media landscape – broadcasting or newspapers, digital or analog, curated or user-generated – that the government does not either regulate or subsidize or both. If takeover is not the word, what is?

NDP to debate phasing out Canada’s Armed Forces at policy convention

The policy resolution titled “Elimination of the Canadian Armed Forces” was submitted by the party’s Spadina-Fort York Electoral District Association (EDA).

It claims that “in a world with a globalized economy traditional militaries are becoming increasingly unnecessary” and points to other countries like Costa Rica and Iceland which have allegedly “abolished their armies.”

BAROOTES: Trudeau’s made-in-America obsession with guns does nothing to keep us safe

You know a federal election is in the air when a Liberal government starts to dream up a new suite of exotic and invasive gun laws.

In the past year alone, the Trudeau government has announced a federal buy-back program for a list of firearms they have now deemed to be illegal. They introduced new legislation that will allow municipalities to ban law-abiding Canadians from owning restricted firearms, which could also ban airsoft sports. And, most recently, they have introduced Bill C-22 to eliminate a number of mandatory minimum penalties for firearms offenses that keep communities safe.

For those keeping score at home, this means the Trudeau government is now treating people who obey the law like criminals, people who break the law like victims, and people who work for municipalities as if they work for the federal government instead.
