Ottawa-funded social justice research isn’t science

For the past decade, Ottawa politicized research funding: Liberal ministers pledged to embed diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) into research practices while bringing diversity targets to the sector; they even said outright that federal funds would be used to tinker with the demographics within the research ecosystem.

And now, in 2024, the House of Commons is finally hearing about it. In October, the science committee kicked off a study on the impact of government funding requirements on Canadian research, and, for once, invited a slate of witnesses who don’t bow to DEI dogma.

Lawrence Krauss: Government should support science — not social engineering

For countries to compete economically in the 21st century, support for fundamental research in science and engineering needs to be an integral part of policymaking. China, India, Singapore, Korea and numerous other countries are devoting billions to building up their research enterprises, and in numerous cases are beginning to outstrip the West. One of the problems in North America is that major science funding agencies have become fixated on devoting resources to addressing perceived social justice issues, drawing key funding away from the science enterprise itself.

Roger Waters: Propaganda tool for Moscow?

The 79-year-old former member of the British avant-garde rock band Pink Floyd addressed the UN Security Council in New York on Wednesday via video link.

Invited by Moscow to give the speech, Roger Waters repeated that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was “provoked,” claiming that he represented a “voiceless majority” with his opinion.

He did condemn “in the strongest possible terms” Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but added, that it “was not unprovoked, so I also condemn the provocateur in the strongest possible terms.”

How hard will America squeeze its billionaires?

The rich are getting richer — but a political backlash is brewing

In America, millionaires and billionaires aren’t just tolerated, they’re celebrated. But that could be changing.

Thanks to surging stock values and other factors, the rich are now getting richer at truly jaw dropping rate. Earlier this week it was reported that Elon Musk made $36 billion in a single day.

Vox: It’s time to reconsider air conditioning for the sake of ‘cooling justice’

Thursday Vox published a piece about the need to reconsider air-conditioning in order to promote “cooling justice.” The article is based on a book on the same topic but this interview with the author is a bit vague. What exactly is “cooling justice” and what would that look like in practice? I confess I’m a bit curious if only because I like to know what it is that the left has planned for all of us.

You Don’t Need To Go To Kabul To See The End Of American Order. It’s Right Here Among Us

The nation’s attention these past two weeks has focused nearly exclusively on Kabul, and rightly so given that the city has become the scene of the largest hostage situation in American history and a vivid image of the decline of Pax Americana abroad.

But Americans don’t need to travel 7,500 miles to get a first-hand glimpse of the end of American order. In many of our own country’s major cities, gangs of masked thugs and criminals do what they please — and our far-better-armed police aren’t allowed to stop them and protect the rest of us.

Speech Is Not Violence

Have you noticed how our language is changing?

At a congressional hearing on “Birthing While Black,” nearly every politician used the words “birthing people” instead of “women” or “mothers.” Asked why, Shalanda Young, President Joe Biden’s budget director, said, “Our language needs to be more inclusive.”

Activists have also changed “equality” to “equity” and “affirmative action” to “diversity.”

The Associated Press no longer uses “mistress.” It tells reporters to use “companion, friend, or lover.”

Worse, certain speech is now labeled “violence.”

Dumb for all and all for Dumb! Vancouver School Board phases out honours programs in high schools

The Vancouver School Board is cutting honours courses in math and science in its high schools because the school district says they do not comply with the equity and inclusion goal of ensuring that all students can participate in every aspect of the curriculum.

The school board says teachers will instead be encouraged to teach to individual students’ capabilities, including those who excel at math and science. Honours courses in English were phased out over several years.

The “Stupid Nazis” are in charge. My bet is that whoever concocted this nonsense is innumerate.

Baltimore City Responds After Dozens Of Businesses Threaten Not To Pay Taxes

This weekend, the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) closed down multiple city streets around the Inner Harbor, in a stretch called “Fells Point,” after dozens of local businesses threatened the new city government, run by Mayor Brandon Scott, to not pay taxes because they’re “fed up and frustrated” with the outburst of violence.

Baltimore, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, LA, Detroit, they must have something in common.

Anarchists and an increase in violent crime hijack Portland’s social justice movement

PORTLAND, Ore. — The church, on the edge of this city, was built to hold thousands, and on this drizzly day the pews of Mannahouse were filled with hundreds of mourners, scattered throughout the broad, high-ceilinged chamber to comply with pandemic rules.

Nearly all of them were Black.

They had gathered to memorialize Jalon Yoakum, 33, whose body lay in a clear casket at the front of the stage. The wounds on his face had been brushed over; a blue suit and white open-collar shirt hid the rest of the scars from the daylight gunshots that killed him in a pizza restaurant parking lot this month.

Portland is a White city, overwhelmingly so — African Americans account for just 6 percent of the population. But it is Black people such as Yoakum, an aspiring union electrician, who are dying at near-historic rates and filling churches with grief.

First the lying MSM decides Trump was right about the China Virus and now Antifa is suddenly a “Bad Thing”.

The Child Soldiers of Portland

Famously the “whitest city in America,” Portland has become the unlikely headquarters of race radicalism in the United States. The city has elevated white guilt into a civic religion; its citizens have developed rituals, devotions, and self-criticisms to fight “systemic racism” and “white supremacy.” The culminating expression of this orthodoxy is violence: street militias, calling themselves “antiracists” and “antifascists,” smash windows and torch the property of anyone transgressing the new moral law.
