Barbara Kay: The Bullying of Late Toronto Principal a Feature of DEI Training, Not a Bug

The untimely death by suicide of school principal Richard Bilkszto, 60 years of age, came as a shock even to observers closely engaged with his workplace difficulties and their multi-faceted fallout over the last two years.

Once retired in 2019, Bilkszto did freelance work for the Toronto District School Board. In April 2021, TDSB administrators contracted with the KOJO Institute to educate about 200 high-echelon employees on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles. KOJO CEO Kike Ojo-Thompson led several training sessions. In her first presentation, she assserted that our nation is infected by systemic racism, describing Canada as a “bastion of white supremacy and colonialism.” She went on in this denunciatory vein, even claiming Canada was more racist than the United States.

RIP, Richard Bilkszto, a Toronto Educator Who Stood up to Woke Bullying—and Paid the Price

In late April, 2021, a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) trainer named Kike Ojo-Thompson presented a lecture to senior Toronto public-school administrators, instructing them on the virulent racism that (Ojo-Thompson believes) afflicts Canadian society. Canada, she said, is a bastion of “white supremacy and colonialism,” in which the horrors unleashed by capitalism and sexism regularly lay waste to the lives of non-white and female Canadians.

The Military Doesn’t Need DEI

Is the Marine operating a howitzer going to be more proficient if he’s familiar with the work of Ibram X. Kendi?

House Republicans voted to end DEI programs and personnel at the Pentagon, and one wonders whether the U.S. military will ever be the same.

The provision was one of a number of anti-woke measures in the House-passed National Defense Authorization Act — including reversing the Pentagon’s new abortion-enabling paid travel and leave policies — that have occasioned sputtering outrage.

Ten Reasons Why Affirmative Action Died

The end of affirmative action was inevitable. The only surprise was that such intentions gone terribly wrong lasted so long.

First, supporters of racial preferences always pushed back the goal posts for the program’s success. Was institutionalized reverse bias to last 20 years, 60 years, or ad infinitum?

Parity became defined as an absolute equality of result. If “equity” was not obtained, then only institutionalized “racism” explained disparities. And only reverse racism was deemed the cure.

The “Chilling” Effect

Florida’s tenured radicals say that my reporting is making them “nervous.” Good.

My recent reporting on radical DEI programming in state universities, which helped pave the way for the abolition of those programs by Florida governor Ron DeSantis, has apparently made left-wing academics in Florida’s public universities nervous.

Last week, University of Central Florida professor Robert Cassanello told the Tampa Bay Times that his colleagues are terrified of being exposed publicly. “They’re changing their classes or they’re not assigning books they would normally assign out of fear that if that stuff gets published that Chris Rufo is going to come and target them and tweet about them and they’ll be in the crosshairs,” Cassanello said.

White gays and Jews not welcome? Fired diversity official sues college for ‘de-centering whiteness’

Silicon Valley community college officials said “White gays and lesbians” were not welcome in its LGBT center, called Jews “White oppressors” and refused repeated requests to address antisemitism, and forced staff to mouth a “land acknowledgment” that misidentified local indigenous tribes, according to a former diversity official.

White Men Face Systemic Racism in the Workplace

‘Diversity, Equity and Inclusion’ and ‘Environmental, Social, and Corporate governance’ are the real systemic racism backed by the system.

A recent survey revealed that 1 in 6 hiring managers had been told to avoid hiring members of a particular gender and race. Normally editorials and cable news hits would have been scheduled, politicians would have held hearings and the civil rights apparatus of every federal and state agency, including the Department of Labor, would have launched massive investigations.

But since the group being discriminated against were white men, civil rights professionals and the media gave each other a thumbs up and congratulated themselves on a job well done.

California school district is sued after administrator said he wanted to bring voices that oppose DEI measure ‘to the slaughterhouse’ and another called America a ‘f*****g piece of s*** nation’

A California school administrator who was named in a lawsuit brought by a faculty member said he wanted to bring voices who opposed diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives ‘to the slaughterhouse.’

Professor Daymon Johnson filed a suit against Bakersfield College after claiming he was targeted for being outspoken about his political beliefs.

It was filed after Johnson replied to a post from another faculty member who had called America a ‘f***ing piece of s**** nation.’

For DEI Supporters, Perpetuation of Racism Is Good Business

The apparent goal of contemporary anti-racism activism — which is not the activism of the civil-rights era — is not to end racism but to perpetuate it.

At a former university where I taught and served as a diversity officer (yes, that happened), I had a meeting with the school’s black-student union. Toward the end of the meeting, I asked something to the effect of “Is your goal to be obsolete in the near future?”

Diversity hire for Washington’s brand new diversity office fired amid reports of anti-diversity

Talk about a bureaucrat from the underworld. According to the Democrat governor who hired her, there were “concerns” with Dr. Karen Johnson’s professional performance, so he had to let her go — but the details of Johnson’s firing make for a spicy spectacle. “Concerns” doesn’t quite fit; “nightmare” seems more appropriate.

The RAF’s woke discrimination

Even the armed forces have fallen to divisive identitarian dogma.

Of all the institutions to fall to wokeness, the UK’s Royal Air Force might seem an unlikely candidate. You might have thought that the divisive campaign across elite institutions to introduce racially aware policies, to provide leg-ups to supposedly ‘vulnerable’ women and minorities, all allegedly in the name of righting past wrongs, would have run aground with the armed forces. Only the most committed bigot could care about the skin pigmentation, or (ahem) undercarriage equipment, of the person charged with protecting their homeland, so long as he or she is committed and competent. Surely, the RAF has more pressing concerns than the precise ethnic and sexual makeup of its recruits?

Jamie Sarkonak: Liberals bring identity quotas to Canada Media Fund

In 2021, the Liberals said they would dramatically boost funding for the Canada Media Fund. And they did — but that funding came with diversity quotas and a new emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

It’s another bald-faced example of the Liberals infusing identity into public (or publicly-funded-but-government-adjacent) media programs to craft Canada in their image. Now, the program is beholden to diversity-based budgeting (with diversity “targets” in its largest funding branch), an identity tracking system for content producers and a “narrative positioning” policy that guides how stories about certain groups are told.

White men need not apply. I think I will now make it a personal goal to never watch anything described as Canadian content.

The biggest threat to our military just might be DEI indoctrination

Sometimes I look at the destructive things done in the name of DEI — diversity, equity and inclusion — and I wonder: If a foreign power had infiltrated us and was trying to weaken and destroy our institutions, what would it do differently?

The answer is “Not much.”

And now a large group of retired senior military officers — generals and admirals all — is raising the alarm on the pernicious influence of “woke” ideology in military DEI programs.

A purge of DEI types will be necessary.

Next Joint Chiefs Chair Wants White Male Officers to be a Minority

Kinda crazy lookin?

When I was working on the David Horowitz Freedom Center’s ‘Disloyal Military’ investigation, I predicted that Air Force Chief of Staff Charles Q. Brown Jr. would be selected as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The media is now reporting that Biden will indeed pick Brown to replace Milley. And as bad as Milley was, expect Brown to be much worse.

Under Gen. Brown, the Air Force has become the most woke of the major service branches.

DEI Swallows Texas A&M

The university has adopted radical politics in order to “dismantle systemic racism.”

Texas A&M is a systematically racist institution. According to whom? According to the leadership of Texas A&M.

In recent years, the College Station-based public university, originally founded with a focus on agriculture and engineering, has built a vast “diversity, equity, and inclusion” bureaucracy that has adopted the narrative of left-wing racialism, segregated students by race, and told colleagues to “stop centering whiteness.”
