Twitter Inc. is leading social-media stocks lower Monday as investors digest a new reality for the services after Twitter permanently banned President Donald Trump from its platform and Facebook Inc. said it would restrict him at least until the end of his term.

The announcement from Twitter TWTR, -5.91%, which came late Friday, followed a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters midweek. Twitter charged that Trump’s tweets after the riot served to glorify violence and went against the company’s terms of service. Facebook FB, -3.54% had announced Thursday that Trump would be barred from its platform at least until the inauguration.

Twitter shares are off 6.6% in Monday morning trading, while Facebook shares are down 3%. Shares of Apple Inc. AAPL, -2.25% and Alphabet Inc. GOOG, -2.18% GOOGL, -2.14%, both of which pulled right-wing social-media app Parler from their app stores citing lax moderation policies, are off 2.2% and 1.7%, respectively. Shares of Amazon.com Inc. AMZN, -1.94%, which booted Parler from its AWS web-hosting platform, are down 1.4%.

“While the week will certainly be remembered for far more shocking events, it’s not lost on us that we may be at the precipice of a change to long-standing internet rules of engagement,” Bernstein analyst Mark Shmulik wrote. “Perhaps the limited time left in Trump’s presidency eased social media worries of a presidential retaliation, while a more cynical view we’ve heard suggests that these platforms took actions precisely because of the Democrats’ recent Senate win.”

Donald Trump Floats Launching New Social Media Platform After Twitter Ban

Following Wednesday’s violent attacks on the Capitol building, virtually all major social media platforms decided to suspend President Donald Trump, accusing him of inciting violence. The latest tech giant to remove the president’s account was Twitter, a network he has often used to communicate with supporters and opponents alike.

Almost immediately after he was banned, Trump returned to Twitter using the @POTUS account. As The Hill reported, in a series of messages that have since been removed, the commander-in-chief floated the idea of launching his own network in order to avoid censorship and allow conservatives to have a voice.

With the Democrats in control of the government, these leftist internet platforms know they have nothing to fear by doing this, that if anything the Democrats controlling Congress will applaud them and encourage them to censor more conservative and Republican outlets, to shut them all down if possible.

Twitter suspends Trump’s account for 12 hours for violations of ‘Civic Integrity Policy’

Twitter has suspended U.S. President Donald Trump’s Twitter account for 12 hours after he posted “repeated and severe violations of [their] Civic Integrity policy.”

Trump had three tweets removed on Wednesday afternoon, including a video message posted as his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol.

In the pre-taped video, Trump told supporters the election was stolen from them but also asked them to go home.

Beats me why they did it, no reason given, woke up this morning and it was gone!

Thing is social media of all types has only ever amounted to between 3 and 5% of all traffic to BCF. We’ve been shadow banned and otherwise “managed” for years by Twitter and FB yet still pull in 5-6 million blog visits per annum without or despite their dubious assistance.

Twitter has confirmed that the official US presidential accounts will be wiped of their millions of followers before being transferred to the Biden administration.

Mr Biden’s team “fought” the plan, but the social media giant said its decision was “unequivocal”.

The move marks a reversal from the last transition.

Twitter agreed to Donald Trump’s request in 2016 to inherit Barack Obama’s millions of followers.

…According to the article, Su, who previously owned a tech company named PastureMap, wished to be involved in “mission-driven” work in the tech industry for years. “As a queer woman of color who is an Asian American in tech in rural America, that experience is a very intersectional one. I’ve had plenty of experiences moving through spaces where I wanted more safety,” she told the news outlet.
