The producers of Alec Baldwin film Rust have disputed an official report saying they were indifferent to gun safety before an on-set shooting tragedy.
The film’s cinematographer was killed and its director injured when a gun held by Baldwin fired last October.
Last month, the New Mexico Environment Department imposed its maximum fine on Rust Movie Productions for “serious and wilful” failures.
But the company has said it “enforced all applicable safety protocols”.
Quebec is asking the federal government to close a wooded border crossing south of Montreal because the province can’t handle the number of asylum seekers entering the country.
Premier Francois Legault says more than 100 refugee claimants are entering Quebec every day from the United States through a rural path called Roxham Road.
The popular unofficial border crossing was closed when the pandemic hit in March 2020 and reopened last November.

OTTAWA – Montreal police are investigating if anti-pipeline anarchists are behind a fire that destroyed two luxury vehicles at the home of former Conservative Minister and current RBC executive Michael Fortier.

CSIS was concerned by the threat of ideologically motivated, violent extremism and the potential for serious harmful acts in relation to the trucker convoy, says the head of the national intelligence agency.
David Vigneault, Canadian Security Intelligence Service director, told a special committee of parliamentarians examining the invocation of the federal Emergencies Act on Tuesday that this form of extremism, which he referred to as IMVE, represents a significant national-security threat.

Amazon pulls sexually explicit childrenswear from its Canadian site following complaint
Amazon has pulled from its e-commerce website several children’s clothing items displaying a sexually explicit message, following a CBC News investigation.
The items, sold by third-party sellers, included a dress, T-shirt, summer hat and hoodies boldly displaying the message “I love c–k,” using a heart emoji. Sometimes a rooster emoji replaced the word, “c–k,” which is another word for a rooster and slang for a male appendage.
The Alberta Court of Appeal has ruled that the Impact Assessment Act – known by many as the ‘No More Pipelines bill’, is unconstitutional.
In the ruling, the highest court in Alberta ruled the legislation poses an “excisional threat” to the division of powers.
