Habibullah, a Taliban soldier in Afghanistan, remembers setting land mines at age 17 on his first day of fighting near Kandahar. “I saw a Canadian tank explode and knew I had killed for the first time,” he remembers with remorse.
Three of his friends also died that day in 2009 — at the hands of Canadians, he says.
Habibullah, 30, says he forgives Canada for fighting the Taliban. He hopes Canadians can forgive him, too. “Now we must give our hands to each other,” he says.

Just when we thought the pandemic was behind us, COVID hysteria is back with a vengeance in Canada, with Ontario standing out once again as uniquely fearful, where the science apparently works differently than everywhere else on the planet. With most Western countries now ditching the last of their COVID-19 restrictions, there is chatter that Ontario ought to reimpose restrictions that were recently lifted, in particular the mask mandate.
The chatter is not merely from those who never saw a government rule or restriction they didn’t like, but from the self-appointed experts who hold forth in the media and social media on the need to tighten restrictions yet again in the face of a sub-variant, in an apparently never ending battle with the virus.

Ukraine: Boris Johnson travels to Kyiv for Zelensky talks
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has held talks in Kyiv with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, Downing Street has said.
No 10 said the visit was “show of solidarity” with the Ukrainian people.
A spokesman said Mr Johnson was using the trip to set out a new package of financial and military aid.
It comes the day after the UK announced £100m of weapons for Ukraine after the bombing of refugees at a railway station.
In kindergarten classrooms across the country, teachers are reading books like Michael Hall’s “Red” to five-year-old students. The book teaches these kids it’s possible to be born in “the wrong body.” You don’t think this is grooming?
You don’t think that telling them this lie and planting this seed of doubt exploits their vulnerability and primes them for future insecurity to be preyed upon by pharmaceutical companies that benefit from their lifelong dependence on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones that will render them permanently sterile?
I’m going to pause there and repeat this. Permanently sterile. We are chemically castrating children before they’re even legally old enough to pierce their ears without parental consent. Shouldn’t the wholesale sterilization of children give you pause? It’s a human rights atrocity. And a sexual crime.
Dr. Christy Sutherland, medical director for PHS Healthcare, the organization running the program, said the goal is to meet substance users where they are at, instead of administering alternatives like Dilaudid that patients may not find helpful.
“The common feedback we had from patients was that they would prefer fentanyl, that we needed to match what they were buying from the drug dealer in order to get them away from that street supply. OTTAWA —Canada and the U.S. are in detailed security talks to ensure there’s no repeat of trucker blockades led in part by “right-wing extremists” who “wanted to overthrow the government,” says Washington’s envoy to Canada.
Ambassador David L. Cohen said the blockades, particularly at the Windsor-Detroit border in early February, raised “significant concerns” within the Biden administration and among American manufacturers about the reliability of cross-border supply chains.
Cohen strongly condemned the protests and voiced concerns they could happen again. He also said Canada and U.S. government officials are looking at how to eliminate jurisdictional snafus that complicated law enforcement efforts to stop the blockades, along with measures to tackle the disinformation that fuelled the protests in the first place.
The Liberal Canadian Finance Minister’s budget includes an investigation into cryptocurrency while also compelling crowdfunding sites to report “suspicious transactions.”
Mirroring some of the financial actions taken under the Emergencies Act, the budget that Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland announced yesterday said a “legislative review” into cryptocurrency will be launched on top of the implementation of stricter regulatory measures on crowdfunding sites and payment processors.
