Covid isn’t the end – History shows this is not how civilisations collapse

The world is always coming to an end, for someone. “Never morning wore to evening but some heart did break,” as Lord Tennyson elegantly put it. People die every day, from illnesses and accidents. Ambulances and fire engines are forever on their way to some life-shattering emergency; the police are eternally ringing someone’s doorbell to give bad news. The news websites’ pandemic death toll tickers have made it impossible to forget, but the fact is not new.

Berlin archbishop to name minister for gays, calls sidelining ‘painful’

BERLIN — Archbishop Heiner Koch said he would appoint a pastoral minister as a contact person for gays, the Berlin Archdiocese announced.

The German Catholic news agency KNA reported Koch made the pledge when he met with representatives of the Lesbian and Gay Association of Berlin-Brandenburg, with the archbishop saying this was important so that the marginalization and discrimination of the LBGTQ community could be addressed in the church without fear. Koch said he regarded the double marginalization of Catholic gays — within the Catholic community as well as in the LGBTQ community — as “problematic and painful.”

Now even rape victims are being called bigots

Now even rape victims are being called bigots

Trans ideology forces even the victims of sexual violence to adhere to its eccentric orthodoxies.

The list of ‘anti-trans bigots’ grows longer by the day. We already know that this McCarthy-like list includes any woman who dares to speak up for women’s sex-based rights and who would prefer not to have blokes in her changing rooms and bathrooms, and any lesbian-rights activists who object to the idea that in order to be a good, woke person she must agree to feel sexually attracted to someone with a penis who fantasises that he is a gay woman. Those, and others, have for a long time been branded thoughtcriminals against transgenderism, deserving of No Platforming and ceaseless harassment online. Now, another group of people has been added to the list: rape victims.

Biden and Trudeau are Putin and Xi’s useful energy idiots

The Biden and Trudeau administrations should pause to reflect carefully on just how much rope Vladimir Putin and Chairman Xi have already sold them

By viewing the world chiefly through the dual lenses of carbon and climate, the Biden and Trudeau governments are missing the key foundations of global energy strategy: security and economic viability. Be assured, Russia’s Vladimir Putin and China’s Xi Jinping are not.

Still Unsure About Getting The COVID-19 Vaccine? Start Here.

In the early days of the pandemic, there was a real sense of camaraderie. We were all in this together. We stood on our balconies and stoops and leaned out windows to clap for front-line workers. We stayed home to keep each other safe. Now, that altruistic mentality has reverted to the all-too-familiar mean of tribalism. It can feel like the battle lines have been drawn: on one side, those who have been vaccinated, and on the other, those who haven’t.

But things are never that black and white. Even among those who have been vaccinated, many people still have concerns and questions about the vaccine. And among those who haven’t, their reasons for not getting the jab vary from concerns over potential side effects, to a fear of needles, to simply not being able to take time off work. The roughly 30 percent of eligible Americans who have yet to be vaccinated are not all anti-vaccine conspiracy theorists, and treating them as such could make them even less likely to get the shot.

‘My boys are not monsters’: Mother of two brothers charged with shooting dead Chicago cop Ella French is arrested as she livestreams her attempt to barge and kick her way into hospital room

The mother of accused Chicago cop killers allegedly kicked a hospital security guard in the groin and wrestled with police officers during her arrest after she barged into the hospital where one of her sons is being treated.

In one of three first-person Facebook live videos – posted under the name ‘Marsia Outofthebox Braidy’ – a woman is heard telling nurses, ‘I want to see my son. Emonte Morgan.’

The woman in the video is presumably Evalena Flores, 41, whos outfit and appearance in the videos match the mugshots. Police said the videos are ‘of interest to our investigation.’

Shell-shocked: Could a Dutch court’s ruling on Shell’s emissions encourage similar cases in Canada?

If there’s any doubt about the extent to which societal and legal expectations regarding climate change are evolving, a Netherlands court’s ruling ordering Royal Dutch Shell Plc. to reduce the CO2 emissions of its 1,100 companies by 45 per cent as of 2030 from 2019 level should put the naysayers to rest.

“What you’ve got is a court interfering in the internal operations of a very big corporate target on the basis that the dangers of climate change outweigh the company’s commercial interests,” said Caroline Jageman, an energy and commercial lawyer at Jageman Law in Toronto.

In a New York minute.

Delingpole: The 2011 London Riots Were Bad, But What’s Next Is Worse

It’s the tenth anniversary of the London riots and I’m starting to feel nostalgic. If only we could recapture the lost innocence and optimism of that magical era when all we had to worry about was a few hundred rioters in various London suburbs torching and looting a few buildings; when there didn’t seem too much wrong with the world that a few water cannons couldn’t sort out…

COVID-19 vaccine endorsed for pregnant women

In the past three weeks the American Congress of Obstetricians and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine have endorsed the vaccine for expectant mothers.

“This is an important recommendation since we now know that contracting COVID-19 during pregnancy increases the risk of severe life-threatening complications to both the mother and fetus. This is really compelling support for getting vaccinated if you are unvaccinated and pregnant,’’ said Dr. Richard Leach, the chair of Women’s Health Services for Henry Ford Health System.
