80-year old kicked out of hospital for holding husband’s hand

Crevatin said her mother was escorted out of the hospital by security after a nurse “caught” her reaching out to hold her husband’s hand shortly after the move to the fifth floor.

“Most of the nurses in that unit were fantastic and very understanding, but there was a couple that were very into just …following the rules,” she said.

“They’ve been married for 60 years. It’s very hard for my mother not to hold his hand, not to go up close to him, to touch him — especially since that’s our only form of communication with him.”

When the nurse asked her mother to return to her chair, two metres away, she did but Crevatin said two security guards were still called and they escorted her mother out of the hospital.

Canada’s China Class – ‘Let’s go learn’: Not for Canada to tell China it’s wrong, N.S. premier Stephen McNeil says

Canada’s China Class at work.

Amid growing calls for a tougher Canadian stance toward China, outgoing Nova Scotia Liberal Premier Stephen McNeil had some provocative advice recently, suggesting politicians here should actually avoid reproaching Beijing.

The federal government is grappling with China’s imprisonment of two Canadians, a clampdown on political freedoms in Hong Kong and the sweeping suppression of the country’s Uyghur minority.

Gee, I wonder who greased his palms?

Trump Fought the Swamp and the Swamp Won

Trump Fought the Swamp and the Swamp Won

Even more effective than breaking the rules is changing them in your favor.

“The Resistance was great for business” is the engaging title of a recent article by Byron York.

York’s story is about how the founders of the Lincoln Project, rabidly anti-Trump Republicans, allegedly used millions in donations from their unsuspecting supporters to feather their own nests. I use the word “allegedly” advisedly; I don’t know the facts and I am old-fashioned enough to try to avoid falsely accusing someone in print, even if they are “public figures” and thus fair game under modern libel law.

O’Toole Can’t Win by Trying to Out-Liberal the Liberals

As if suffering under the worst pandemic crisis seen in generations wasn’t enough, it’s becoming a foregone conclusion that Canadians will also have to endure a federal election in 2021.

As recently proven in British Columbia and Saskatchewan, elections during the pandemic serve the party in power well. The Trudeau Liberals see a path to the majority government that they so desperately crave, and Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole’s insipid strategy will ensure that the Liberals get their wish.

Cancelling cancel culture: UK Students and academics will be able to SUE universities for censoring free speech

Students and academics will be able to sue their universities for suffocating their free speech on campus under new Government plans to tackle the ‘very real and alarming threat of censorship’.

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson has unveiled plans for a ‘free speech champion’ who will have the power to defend academics amid rising fears institutions are trying to cancel people due to their views.

It comes after a December report claimed more than a third of universities are imposing ‘severe’ restrictions on freedom of speech.

Inside the Lincoln Project’s ‘toxic’ workplace: Accusations of sexual harassment and a culture of infighting

The Lincoln Project’s launch in late 2019 was designed to make a splash.

“We are Republicans, and we want Trump defeated,” four of its co-founders wrote in The New York Times. The organization would go on to raise nearly $90 million for its stated mission of defeating Donald Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box in 2020.

White male civil servant sues the Government for race discrimination after learning a black female colleague was paid almost £52,000 more to do the same job

A white male civil servant is suing the Government for race discrimination after learning a black female colleague was paid almost £52,000 more to do the same job.

Matthew Parr was appointed as one of only five HM Inspectors of Constabulary in 2016 on a £133,893 per year salary.

But he has since launched a sex and race discrimination case after he discovered that fellow inspector Wendy Williams, who is black, was hired on £185,791 just 15 months before.

Full-face hot-wax TikTok videos prompt warnings

Darwin was right.

Viral videos of people having full-face “hot wax” treatments on TikTok have led to warnings from skin experts.

They show softened resin covering subjects’ face, mouth and neck – and partially penetrating their ears and nose – before being removed.

A barber posting some of the most watched examples says it is beneficial.

But the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) said: “Attempting to wax inside your nose or ears is not recommended.”

Charges dismissed against Amy Cooper, white woman who called 911 on Black birdwatcher

Charges were dismissed Tuesday against Amy Cooper, the white woman who called police on a Black birdwatcher in Central Park last May, after she completed a psycho-education and therapy program focused on racial equity, prosecutors said.

Cooper was facing a misdemeanor charge of falsely reporting an incident to police after prosecutors said she twice called 911 falsely claiming that Christian Cooper was threatening and tried to attack her.

Interesting tweet from her lawyer.

RCMP’s new ‘cultural humility’ course, doesn’t humiliate enough experts say

I like this painting as I’m certain it offends all the usual suspects.

‘Glaring gap’ in addressing anti-Indigenous and anti-Black racism in RCMP’s new ‘cultural humility’ course, experts say

A mandatory online training course called “Cultural Awareness and Humility” that was rolled out last fall for all RCMP members and touted by the commissioner as an example of the force’s efforts to modernize misses the mark on many levels, according to experts who have reviewed the program for the Star.

One glaring gap, they say, is the lack of content addressing institutionalized racism, particularly anti-Indigenous and anti-Black racism. Instead, the training emphasizes only implicit biases and reforming individual attitudes and behaviours.

Some noted that a section on the RCMP’s role in colonization was given short shrift — just three paragraphs.

WHO Adviser: Wuhan COVID-19 Probe ‘Done by Chinese Authorities’

World Health Organization (WHO) adviser Jamie Metzl has said that the international body’s investigation into the origins of the CCP virus was in fact conducted by Chinese authorities.

The probe, which also considered whether the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus could have accidentally leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology that had been studying coronavirus spread from bats to humans, was carried out by local authorities and not WHO investigators, Metzl told Fox News’ “Ingraham Angle” on Feb. 10.

Rich countries should only eat synthetic beef, says crazy person Bill Gates

Hi Ya Bill! Fuck Off.

Bill Gates has urged rich nations to move to “100% synthetic beef” in order to address the greenhouse gas emissions driving global climate change.

In his new book, How to Avoid a Climate Disaster, the billionaire philanthropist stresses that while it remains possible for humanity to avert the disaster through technological achievements, government policy will ultimately be needed.
