In defence of whataboutery

Did you know that 652 children have starved to death in Nigeria over the past six months? Did you know that in the north-east of that benighted nation, where a jihadist insurgency is raging and international aid is running thin, a savage hunger stalks the land? Did you know that five million people there are ‘severely hungry’, and that the World Food Programme is only able to feed 1.3million of them? Don’t feel ashamed if you haven’t heard about any of this. Few have. For it has been cruelly drowned out, ruthlessly demoted down the hierarchy of human concern, by what can only be described as the unhinged Gaza infatuation of our Israelophobic elites.

The West’s New Woke War Model Means We Won’t Win Any More Wars

During WWII, Britain came perilously close to losing. Germany used its U-boats in a way that Britain and its allies were unable to foresee or initially overcome. The Battle of the Atlantic saw the introduction of a new tactic, the Wolf Pack, resulting in the sinking of 5,841 ships from 1939 through 1943, which almost led to Britain’s defeat.

Asymmetry is how wars are won, and Israel, despite its vast military might, is facing a new kind of asymmetry, which sees it fighting according to Woke Western rules. These rules will ensure that the West never wins a war again.

Five Al Jazeera journalists killed in Israeli strike in Gaza

Five Al Jazeera journalists have been killed in an Israeli strike near Gaza City’s Al-Shifa Hospital, the broadcaster has said.

Correspondents Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqeh, alongside cameramen Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa were in a tent for journalists at the hospital’s main gate when it was targeted, Al Jazeera reported.

The “targeted assassination” on Sunday was “yet another blatant and premeditated attack on press freedom”, it said in a statement.

John Weissenberger: Canada fought for Quebec. Would it do the same for Alberta?

Will an Alberta separation referendum spark a massive unity rally, or a mighty pan-Canadian caravan converging on Calgary or Edmonton? After all, that’s what happened in 1995, when Quebecers looked like they were voting to leave Canada and thousands flocked to Montreal’s Place du Canada for a “Great Love-in.”

Albertans aren’t holding their breath. Clearly Central Canada views Quebec’s possible separation as an existential threat, while the West’s concerns are mere “grievances.” Those of us born and raised “back east,” but transplanted West, who’ve lived both sides of the divide, experiencing firsthand the disparate treatment of the two regions, can perhaps help explain it.

New claims around iconic ‘Tic Tac’ UFO stir debate

Fresh claims about the infamous 2004 ‘Tic Tac’ UFO encounter are reigniting fierce debate over the true nature of the mysterious craft observed by US Navy pilots off the coast of Southern California.

Journalist and UFO investigator Ross Coulthart has sparked controversy by asserting that the craft, captured on video and later released by the Pentagon, is actually advanced man-made technology developed by aerospace giant Lockheed Martin.

Coulthart suggested the craft may have been operated psionically, controlled through advanced mental or neurological means, and could be the product of reverse-engineering non-human technology recovered by the US government.

Why did Trump’s Cabinet give different answers for UFO sightings?

If I recall correctly the encounters have taken place exclusively in designated USN training areas.

JD Vance: ‘You are going to see a lot of people get indicted’ over Russiagate

Vice President JD Vance said in an interview Sunday that “a lot of people” are about to get indicted over the Obama administration’s machinations on so-called Russiagate.

Without divulging specific names of who will get charged, Vance pointed to recent disclosures from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard as ironclad evidence that there had been “an aggressive violation of the law” revolving around Russiagate.

Cutting 64,000 Public Service Jobs Could Save Ottawa $10 Billion: Think Tank

A Montreal think tank says the federal government could save $10 billion by reducing 64,000 public service jobs.

The Montreal Economic Institute (MEI) made the recommendation in a pre-budget brief released on Aug. 7. It urges the government to follow the approach of former Liberal Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, saying his government reduced the civil service by 17 percent over five years.

I don’t see Carney alienating the public service unions, they are too significant a vote bloc.

EU Report Ignores Muslim Violence to Label Catholics ‘Religious Extremists’

According to new report, opposition to abortion is more ‘extreme’ than rape.

AEuropean abortion lobby is warning against “religious extremism” on the rise across the continent, singling out Catholicism and ignoring the threat posed to Europe by Islam. The 158-page report “The Next Wave: How Religious Extremism Is Reclaiming Power,” published by the European Parliamentary Forum for Sexual & Reproductive Rights (EPF), faults “religious extremism” for the phenomenon of “accelerating financial expansion of movements working to dismantle decades of hard-won sexual and reproductive rights across Europe.”

Grant Kilian likes to move fast between the tall blue recycling bins he sorts through, in Vancouver’s West End alleys.

Time, but more accurately, cans are money here. The faster you can fill a bag, the faster you can get paid at the return depot. A big garbage bag full of beer cans, some of which he says he crushes, at 10 cents a pop, could earn Kilian about $30 in tax-free cash.

As he puts it, it’s just a bit of extra money for food, bills or cigarettes when everything feels tight.

It’s an economic miracle if you consider turning a wealthy nation into a 3rd World Dumpster Fire a miracle.

The 2020 Murder Spike Is Officially Over

On Tuesday, the FBI released its annual update on American crime trends, estimated from police department reports covering 2024. The big headline: America’s murder rate stood at five per 100,000 last year. This was well below its 2020–21 surge of around 6.5, a 15 percent decrease from 2023, and even a touch below the 2019 rate.

The murder spike that began in 2020 is officially over.

Learn to code they said …

Goodbye, $165,000 Tech Jobs. Student Coders Seek Work at Chipotle.

As companies like Amazon and Microsoft lay off workers and embrace A.I. coding tools, computer science graduates say they’re struggling to land tech jobs.

Growing up near Silicon Valley, Manasi Mishra remembers seeing tech executives on social media urging students to study computer programming.

“The rhetoric was, if you just learned to code, work hard and get a computer science degree, you can get six figures for your starting salary,” Ms. Mishra, now 21, recalls hearing as she grew up in San Ramon, Calif.

Those golden industry promises helped spur Ms. Mishra to code her first website in elementary school, take advanced computing in high school and major in computer science in college. But after a year of hunting for tech jobs and internships, Ms. Mishra graduated from Purdue University in May without an offer.
