The NDP is introducing an opposition day motion calling on David Johnston to step down as the government’s special rapporteur on foreign interference — only days after one of its MPs was told by CSIS she has been targeted by the Chinese government.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said that while he has been careful not to attack the former governor general or his reputation, Johnston’s background has led to doubts about his work as the special rapporteur.

… The motion — which would be nonbinding if passed — is being introduced after NDP MP Jenny Kwan said she was briefed Friday by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS).

Gotta protect that China class.

Polls suggest Olivia Chow remains the front-runner in Toronto’s mayoral race. Will there be an ‘Anybody but Chow’ movement?

With less than a month until Toronto chooses a new mayor, and after several head-to-head candidate debates, former NDP MP Olivia Chow retains a sizable lead, according to a new Forum Research poll for the Toronto Star.

The survey of 1,007 Torontonians conducted Friday found Chow with the support of 34 per cent of decided and leaning voters, followed by former police chief Mark Saunders at 14 per cent and Coun. Josh Matlow at 12 per cent.

The former president of Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), which serves as the country’s domestic intelligence agency, has called for the far-left, eco-activist group Last Generation to be treated as a threat to the country’s free and democratic order.

In a commentary piece penned for Junge Freiheit, former BfV chief Hans-Georg Maasen, insisted that—in light of the mounting number of criminal cases pending against members of the group for property damage, blocking road traffic, and financing a criminal enterprise—not only is it long overdue that the Last Generation be classified as a criminal organization but that the group ought to be classified as a threat to democracy.

Commencement speaker slams CUNY Law for supporting ‘fascist’ NYPD, oppressive systems

A graduate speaking at the City University of New York’s law school commencement called for a “revolution” to challenge oppressive institutions in the US — name-checking the “fascist” NYPD, the military, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the prison system.

Future lawyer Fatima Mousa Mohammed, a Queens native who was selected by the graduating 2023 class to speak during the May 12 ceremony, praised CUNY for supporting student activism — but said the school still managed to fail students by supporting the NYPD.

Who thought it was a good idea to let these ungrateful bastards into the country?

After record-breaking advance polls, Alberta voters head to polling stations on election day

Today is election day.

Many Albertans have already made their voice heard during last week’s advance polls with 758,550 votes cast, smashing the previous record of 700,476 in 2019.

If all goes to plan, by the end of tonight Albertans will have elected 87 MLAs to represent them in the province’s 31st legislative assembly. Although Calgary has been cited as the deciding battleground, there are plenty of ridings to watch with every election offering its own surprises.

Actress Jane Fonda is facing backlash after she called for men to face ‘arrest and jail’ for the destruction done to the planet as she blamed white men specifically for creating the ‘climate crisis.’

‘It is a tragedy that we have to absolutely stop. We have to arrest and jail those men — they’re all men [behind this],’ she said Saturday at the Cannes Film Festival.

She added there ‘would be no climate crisis if there was no racism.’

In 2021, the Liberals said they would dramatically boost funding for the Canada Media Fund. And they did — but that funding came with diversity quotas and a new emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

It’s another bald-faced example of the Liberals infusing identity into public (or publicly-funded-but-government-adjacent) media programs to craft Canada in their image. Now, the program is beholden to diversity-based budgeting (with diversity “targets” in its largest funding branch), an identity tracking system for content producers and a “narrative positioning” policy that guides how stories about certain groups are told.

White men need not apply. I think I will now make it a personal goal to never watch anything described as Canadian content.
