Untraceable 3D-printed ‘ghost guns’ on the rise in Canada

Police in Canada seized more than 100 3D-printed guns last year, with some jurisdictions seeing big increases in this type of weapon and even busting manufacturing rings for the first time.

In Calgary, for example, police seized 17 3D-printed guns in 2022, compared to just one each in 2021 and 2020.

“I wasn’t a big proponent of putting a lot of resources into 3D-printed guns here in Calgary when we first started [the unit], because we just didn’t see them,” said Ben Lawson, acting staff sergeant of the Calgary Police Service Firearms Investigative Unit.

Vancouver man wants to open Canada’s first crack and heroin store

With only three weeks to go before British Columbia’s decriminalization of hard drugs, a Vancouver man says he is already planning to open Canada’s first store selling crack, meth and heroin.

Known as The Drugs Store, it would be a retail location selling hard drugs in quantities of 2.5 grams per customer. Staff would wear bulletproof vests and face masks – not for COVID safety, but to shroud their identities.

Tens of thousands of Canadians could default on mortgages due to rising rates, bank CEOs say

According to the CEOs of the country’s largest banks, tens of thousands of Canadian borrowers could be vulnerable to defaulting on their mortgages as rates rise and homeowners struggle to make monthly payments.

Scotiabank’s incoming CEO said about 20,000 of the bank’s borrowers could be vulnerable, which represents about 2.5 per cent of the bank’s mortgage customers. Electric vehicles: carmakers put the brakes on costly revolution

British and European manufacturers are slowing down production of electric vehicles because they are too expensive for the vast majority of motorists, an industry body has said.
