Queen Elizabeth II has died, Buckingham Palace announces

Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.

Her family gathered at her Scottish estate after concerns grew about her health earlier on Thursday.

The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change.

With her death, her eldest son Charles, the former Prince of Wales, will lead the country in mourning as the new King and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms.

Miami-Dade school board rejects plan to make October LGBTQ History month

The Miami-Dade school board overwhelming decided against recognizing October as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer History month, which included a measure to teach 12th-graders about two supreme court cases affecting the LGBTQ community.

Parents, teachers and students spoke for more than three hours on Wednesday, with one group citing indoctrination of students and the other speaking about how Nazis ostracized gays and lesbians with a pink triangle. The board then voted 8-1 against the measure, which was proffered by board member Lucia Baez Geller.

‘Soft-touch’ San Francisco leaders now call for ‘IDEAS’ to be given to them within 90 days to end open-air drug markets ‘without anyone going to jail’

San Francisco officials on Tuesday unveiled what they said was a deliberately ‘soft touch’ scheme to deal with the city’s relentless drug crisis – insisting that under their plan ‘nobody’s going to jail,’ but remaining vague on how to end the problem.

With nearly 1,700 fatal overdoses since the start of 2020, San Francisco’s drug crisis has resulted in almost double the death toll of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In June, the city’s mayor, London Breed, announced that their notorious taxpayer-funded open-air drugs market will close at the end of the year.

Mozambique: Mohammedans behead 6, shoot Italian Nun

MAPUTO, Sept 7 (Reuters) – At least six people were beheaded and an Italian nun killed on Tuesday by Islamic State-linked insurgents in Mozambique’s Nampula province, authorities said on Wednesday.

Speaking in the resort town of Xai Xai north of the capital Maputo, President Filipe Nyusi said the insurgents unleashed a killing spree as they fled from soldiers from Mozambique, Rwanda and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) sent to tackle the violence.

Defeating the US Education Mafia

As a teacher, I saw a political movement taking shape via American schools, one contrary to everything that the country supported.

The average student reminds us daily of the failures of the educational system. Many of them, because of academic neglect, become functional illiterates, dropouts, and even angry young men and women who have learned nothing of value during their school years.

Those in doubt should wander into the “better” schools where our privileged youth escape academic boredom with drugs; converse with high school and college students on important subjects and listen to them utter nonsense which they are incapable of defending rationally; observe their activities and how they are being conditioned to measure their self-worth with destructive acts to gain peer acceptance; familiarize yourself with what they enjoy and whom they idolize; and finally, study the syllabi and then ask educators how they justify the nonsensical content.

Hateful tweets multiply dramatically as temperatures become more extreme, an analysis of 4bn geo-located tweets in the US has found.

Scientists logged rises of up to 22% in racist, misogynist and homophobic tweets when temperatures rose above 42C, and increases of up to 12% when the mercury fell below -3C, according to a study by The Lancet Planetary Health.

Ottawa promises review of parole board’s decision to release stabbing suspect from incarceration

Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino on Tuesday evening announced that the Parole Board of Canada will review its decision to uphold Saskatchewan stabbing suspect Myles Sanderson’s release from minimum security incarceration.

The board ruled in February that it did not consider Sanderson to “present an undue risk to society” in its decision to maintain his release.

Sanderson was initially released from incarceration in a healing lodge in August 2021, but that release was suspended in November after it was determined that he had violated the conditions of his release.

What kind of king will Charles be?

The new monarch is keenly aware of protocol but will not abandon the causes close to his heart

The Queen is dead: long live the King. The prince who has been waiting for the crown longer than any royal heir in British history has now acceded to the throne, and soon we will have the answer to the question that has been asked so many times: what sort of king will Charles be? Will he be a meddling monarch, or one who changes our fundamental understanding of what it is to be a modern sovereign?

For Charles the fact that he has been preparing for this moment for the whole of his adult life paradoxically makes the challenges he faces harder, not easier. The overwhelming majority of people have only ever known one sovereign. The Queen’s style, manner, and general approach to the discharging of her responsibilities have become so imprinted on the national consciousness that, to many of us, they are synonymous with what it is to be the monarch.
