Trudeau Doesn’t Commit to Meeting NATO’s 2 Percent Military Spending Target

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is not committing two percent of Canada’s gross domestic product (GDP) to national defence spending—as NATO asks its member countries to do.

Trudeau, who was visiting an Alberta air force base along with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg as part of his Canadian Arctic visit, answered indirectly to a reporter asking if Ottawa would make any “promises or assurances” to meet NATO’s minimum military-spending goal.

… Of the 30 NATO allies, only five spent a lower percentage of their GDP on national defence in 2022 than Canada.

Trudeau needs the money to ruin our economy.

Over Half of Canadians Say They Can’t Keep Up With Rising Cost of Living: Poll

More than half of Canadians say they can’t keep up with the rising cost of living, according to a recent poll by the Angus Reid Institute.

The survey, published on Aug. 22, found that 56 percent of Canadians say they are struggling to keep pace with soaring prices as high inflation continues to force them to pinch their pennies.

“The level of month-to-month price increases was the lowest so far this year. However, prices have risen by 7.6 per cent since July 2021, meaning there is much work for the Bank of Canada left to do to return the country to its target rate of two percent,” the polling firm said.

Hundreds of people gathered on campus to hear speakers denounce the London, Ont., university’s decision to mandate at least three vaccine doses for staff, students and some visitors.

The federal government says it will prioritize direct funding for community groups under Canada’s first ever federal LGBTQ2S+ “action plan,” stating that they are the best-placed organizations to identify and deliver the support needed to address “persisting inequities” and improve the wellbeing of LGBTQ2S+ individuals in this country.

Through the plan, the government is also pledging to study emerging criminal justice issues such as HIV non-disclosure; adopt the usage of the “more inclusive” 2SLGBTQI+ acronym; and launch an awareness campaign aimed at combatting discrimination.

Unreasonable for Toronto to dismiss firefighters over vaccine status, arbitrator says

In a decision that could set a precedent for other disputes over workplace vaccine mandates, a labour arbitrator has handed a victory to more than a dozen firefighters who were fired by the city of Toronto early this year after failing to get the COVID-19 vaccine or disclose their vaccination status.

The arbitrator ruled that Toronto’s mandatory vaccination policy for firefighters was and still is reasonable and said it is supported by expert evidence that demonstrated the safety and efficacy of vaccines the city required its employees to accept.

Pride Cymru: Cardiff Police asking ‘protest group’ to move goes viral

A video appearing to show a police officer asking a group of people to move on for safety reasons during a Pride Cymru march has gone viral.

South Wales Police said its officers were “required to engage with a small protest group who had assembled themselves on the route to block the procession” in Cardiff on Saturday.

The force said no arrests were made.

Organisers said a group interrupted the march, the first since 2019.
