Police are investigating an online threat to JK Rowling, after she tweeted support for Salman Rushdie following his attack in the US.
The Harry Potter author, 57, shared screenshots of a message stating: “Don’t worry, you are next”.
The same Twitter account also posted messages praising the man who attacked Mr Rushdie on stage at an event in New York state.

At least eight people have been injured after a gunman opened fire on a bus near the Western Wall in Jerusalem’s Old City, Israeli officials say.
The suspect opened fire as the pilgrims were returning from prayers at the holy site. Two people, including a pregnant woman, are in a critical condition.
The gunman fled but is now said to have turned himself in.
The Western Wall is one of the holiest sites in Judaism. Thousands travel to pray there every year.

A fire at a Coptic Christian church in the Egyptian capital killed at least 41 people, church officials say.
The blaze ripped through the church in Cairo’s densely populated neighborhood of Imbaba. It was not immediately clear what caused the blaze. An initial investigation blamed an electric short-circuit, police say.

Salman Rushdie was on Saturday taken off a ventilator and is able to talk, a day after he was stabbed as he prepared to give a lecture in New York.
Rushdie remains in hospital with serious injuries, but fellow author Aatish Taseer tweeted on Saturday evening that he was “off the ventilator and talking (and joking).” Rushdie’s agent, Andrew Wylie, confirmed that information without offering further details.

An Orthodox Jewish man was stabbed in the face with a pair of scissors on Thursday in Montreal, Canada, CTV News Montreal reported.
According to StopAntisemitism.org, the 24-year-old man was attacked outside of a kosher meat processing plant.
The assailant was a Lebanese immigrant who was recently employed at the plant, according to the organization.

Three years ago, Sinomine Resource Group Co., a Chinese company, quietly bought the Tanco mine in Manitoba. At the time, Tanco was one of the world’s few sources of the critical mineral cesium, a key input in atomic clocks and radiation detectors. The mine had previously produced lithium, a battery metal used in electric cars.
Even though Tanco was owned by an American chemicals company, Cabot Corp., Canada’s federal government had the authority to block the acquisition on national security grounds. But far from blocking the deal, Ottawa appears not to have given it a second glance.
Earlier this year, under its new Chinese ownership, the Tanco mine started producing lithium and shipping it back to China, where it is fed into the country’s massive domestic electric car industry. Tanco is now the only operating lithium mine in Canada, and Sinomine has plans to expand production over the next few years.
