Biden recognizes Armenian genocide

President Biden has formally declared that the massacre of an estimated 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman Empire more than a century ago was “genocide,” a move that is likely to exacerbate tensions with Turkey.

In doing so, Biden is fulfilling a campaign promise and becoming the first sitting president since Ronald Reagan to use the term “genocide” to describe the mass killings that occurred during the 20th century at the end of World War I.

When he was 24 years old, Colten Skibinsky was sexually assaulted in the showers of a military base.

Although he didn’t call it that back in 2013, when he says two fellow male soldiers came into his shower stall at CFB Borden, one attacking him while the other stood nearby.

“I don’t like admitting it and I always say ‘Oh, I wasn’t raped,’ but that might be a bit of male bravado,” said Skibinsky in an interview with the Star, speaking publicly for the first time about his experience as a male survivor of sexual violence in the Canadian armed forces.

He just experienced it differently.

Though Caitlyn Jenner is one of the most famous transgender people in America, the announcement of her candidacy for California governor was greeted hostilely by one of the state’s largest LGBTQ-rights groups and by many trans activists around the country.

“Make no mistake: we can’t wait to elect a #trans governor of California,” tweeted the group, Equality California. “But @Caitlyn_Jenner spent years telling the #LGBTQ+ community to trust Donald Trump. We saw how that turned out. Now she wants us to trust her? Hard pass.”

Trump: ‘Twitter Is Really Boring — A Lot of People Are Leaving Twitter‘

Near the end of his presidency, Donald Trump was kicked off of social media platform Twitter for alleged violations of its terms of service.

More than three months have passed since, and during an interview that aired on Friday’s broadcast of FNC’s “Hannity,” Trump discussed how he was getting his message out without access to Twitter or Facebook.

Twitter really has gone downhill and I doubt it’s reversible. There is no joie de vivre.

Anti-Semitic TikTok Trend Fuels Violence in Jerusalem

The popular social network has ties to the Chinese government

Videos depicting anti-Semitic violence are trending on TikTok in Israel, encouraging Arab assaults on Jews amid ongoing violent protests in Jerusalem.

The videos, which show Arab teens assaulting unsuspecting Jews, have stoked violent conflicts in the Old City of Jerusalem. Tensions came to a head Thursday night as the far-right Jewish group Lehava organized a street march in protest, chanting “death to Arabs.”

TikTok began removing anti-Semitic videos Friday. The popular social media company has come under fire for censoring content critical of the Chinese Communist Party. TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, is a Chinese tech giant.

‘They want to burn & intimidate’: Portland Mayor Wheeler calls on public to help ‘unmask’ violent ‘anarchist’ protesters

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler has extended a city-wide state of emergency declared over fears of violent protests, while calling on the public to help “unmask” an “anarchist mob” involved in attacks on police and businesses.

Wheeler said the emergency declaration would continue through the weekend during a Friday press conference, first imposed on Tuesday after ex-Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin was found guilty of the murder of George Floyd. The mayor pointed to concerns of violence from demonstrators who’ve taken to the streets on dozens of occasions since the 46-year-old was killed in police custody last May.

BLM Grifter says Chauvin’s conviction a ‘victory in accountability’ but George Floyd’s murder and the cop killing of Ma’Khia Bryant prove justice system is ‘broken’ and should be abolished

Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors has said Derek Chauvin’s conviction was a ‘victory in accountability’ but George Floyd’s murder and the cop killing of Ma’Khia Bryant prove the criminal justice system is ‘broken’ and should be abolished.

Cullors, who set up BLM with Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi back in 2013, posted a video on Instagram Thursday where she told her 371,000 followers that now was the time to ‘fight for more’ and ‘get us closer to a place where there are no jails or prisons or surveillance’ in America.

Ontario reports 4,094 new Covid cases … Trudeau let double mutant in before acting … Some infected are queue jumping and dying at home

As usual Trudeau acted too late.

More COVID-19 patients dying at home, Ontario coroner says

At least 25 people have died in their homes rather than in hospitals or nursing homes since April 1, Dr. Dirk Huyer told CBC News Friday. There could be more cases that his office is unaware of, he added.

The new reality is a deviation from earlier waves of the pandemic, when most COVID-19 deaths took place in nursing homes and hospitals. It goes to show how dangerous the current caseload is in Ontario, Huyer said.

He said he was particularly troubled that some of the people who’ve died at home were in their 30s, 40s and 50s.

Didn’t a couple of MASH units get set up to handle the overflow?

Why the atheists turned on Dawkins

They care more about social justice than whether or not God exists

I suppose it was inevitable that the author of The God Delusion would face charges of blasphemy, but one would never have guessed, in 2006, that they would come from his own side.

First, I should declare an interest. At the risk of being hyperbolic, I believe that Professor Richard Dawkins’s tweets are some of the greatest cultural monuments of the 21st Century. Combining a natural gift for surrealism with a blissful indifference to how people will react to him, they inspire both amusement and outrage — as strange and yet perfectly formed as diamonds falling from the Heavens.
