Afghans who try to deny or minimize their role will find themselves contradicted by the detailed computer records that the US left behind in its frenzied withdrawal.
Out of 1,000 likely voters surveyed August 24-25, 2021, just 29% said they “trust what the news media are reporting about the current situation in Afghanistan.”
The federal government is urging those left in Afghanistan to stay put while the coalition mission changes, and vows to keep helping those still trying to flee the country.

The Canadian government said that “miraculous” efforts have been under way. That contrasts harshly with the reality.
The Biden administration had effectively agreed to provide a massive infusion of cash to the Taliban. But the final deal fell through, the Afghan government fled, and the Taliban took Kabul.
The bulk shipment of dollars never did arrive.
Ocasio-Cortez said, “It is no secret that the Trump administration carried out extremely xenophobic and racist immigration policies.
Monsef used her time in the press conference to speak directly to the Taliban and pleaded with them to end the violence, saying: “I want to take this opportunity to speak with our brothers, the Taliban. We call on you to ensure the safe and secure passage of any individual in Afghanistan out of the country.”
As disaster after disaster continues to unfold regarding the Biden administration’s horribly mismanaged withdrawal from Afghanistan, one aspect they’ve managed to run relatively seamlessly of late has been flight after flight out of Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport filled with Afghan refugees wanting to get the heck out of Dodge.
On August 25, Canada’s military ended its mission at Kabul airport, bringing with them 1,000 more Afghans while leaving thousands of Canadians stranded in the tumultuous country.
