U of A scientist co-leads expert U.S. panel on removing carbon from atmosphere
A University of Alberta scientist is sharing her expertise with policy-makers in the United States in hopes of removing atmospheric carbon dioxide on a mass scale.
Associate professor Sasha Wilson and her colleagues, working with the American non-profit Energy Futures Initiative, co-led a panel in December for U.S. congressional staff on how the American government could speed up the use of what are known as mineral carbonation technologies.

Ontario NDP launch environmental platform, pledge to bring back cap-and-trade system
Ontario’s New Democrats say they would create a new cap-and-trade carbon pricing system if elected in 2022.
The official Opposition made the promise in an environmental policy plank of their election platform, released on Saturday at a morning news conference.
Party leader Andrea Horwath said the province needs the carbon pricing system to help fight climate change.
Canada announces $2.75 billion investment in zero-emissions buses and charging infrastructure
The news was announced by Infrastructure and Communities Minister Catherine McKenna, and Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry Francois-Philippe Champagne. According to The Government of Canada, the money will also support municipalities, transit authorities, and school boards. Furthermore, it will assist in clean transitioning and increase the electrification of Canada’s transit systems. Lastly, the investment will deliver on the government’s commitment to help purchase 5,000 zero-emission buses over the next five years.

In an interview with The Globe and Mail, federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine McKenna said the money, which will be announced Thursday, is in addition to the $1.5-billion funding for electric buses that was announced earlier this year by the Canada Infrastructure Bank.

One of the most common arguments climate alarmists make is that rate of sea-level rise is “accelerating” or rising faster every year.
Sea-level data reported from satellites indicate seas are rising approximately of 3.3 mm/year (See Figure 1). By contrast, tidal stations have recorded a rise of approximately 1 to 2 mm annually, a rate which is little changed over the century or so for which we have adequate records. Indeed, as reported in Climate at a Glance: Sea Level Rise, the oldest tide gauge in the USA, in New York City, shows no acceleration at all going back to 1850.
