The biggest lie told about members of Britain’s middle class — and I speak here with all the dubious authority derived from belonging to that doomed tribe — is that we do not think or talk or agonise about what is now called “the white working class”.
Overlooked? Ignored? Rubbish. The middle classes have both feared the revolutionary potential, envied the apparent lawlessness and yearned for a dusting of the hard-won authenticity of this country’s white working class for almost as long as there has been a printing press.
Something very, very odd seems to have come over our police. On Thursday we learnt that West Yorkshire Police had temporarily blocked job applications from white British candidates “in an attempt to boost diversity”. And then yesterday, we learnt that officers at Thames Valley Police are being given “equity training” – during which they’re taught that they have “white privilege”.
Extraordinary. Imagine if Dixon of Dock Green were to be made nowadays.
Teaching working-class young men that they benefit from ‘white privilege’ is having a detrimental effect on a generation of boys, leading to feelings of negativity and worthlessness, and driving them into the hands of dangerous influencers such as Andrew Tate.
This is the claim made by Sam Fender, the best-selling, 30-year-old musician from North Shields. As the singer told the Sunday Times yesterday, this teaching has resulted in boys from poor white backgrounds being ‘made to feel like they’re a problem’, with those from ‘nowhere towns’ being ‘shamed’ and told they weren’t underprivileged because of their skin colour. Consequently, this constant disparagement is leading many to seek consolation in misogynist online narratives, where people like Tate – whom Fender calls a ‘demagogue psycho’ – reassure them that are ‘worth something’.

You already know this, but we live in deeply stuffy, oppressive times. You can get canceled for saying the wrong thing, not saying the right thing, or even looking at someone in a way they don’t like. Don’t believe me? In a survey of 1,000 American adults, conducted February 13-15, Rasmussen asked:
“Do you agree or disagree with this statement: ‘It’s OK to be white.’”

Debates about racism have become framed largely through discussions of whiteness and of white privilege
In 1935, while writing his masterpiece Black Reconstruction in America, W.E.B. Du Bois pondered the question of why, in the wake of the Civil War, there had not developed working-class solidarity across racial lines.
“The South, after the war,” he observed, “presented the greatest opportunity for a real national labor movement which the nation ever saw or is likely to see for many decades.” Yet, he lamented, “the labor movement, with but few exceptions, never realized the situation. It never had the intelligence or knowledge, as a whole, to see in black slavery and Reconstruction, the kernel and meaning of the labor movement in the United States.” The principal reason was “the race philosophy” which “came as a new and terrible thing to make labor unity or labor class-consciousness impossible. So long as the Southern white laborers could be induced to prefer poverty to equality with the Negro, just so long was a labor movement in the South made impossible.”

Ms Riseborough has been nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars for her turn in To Leslie, in which she plays a drunk from West Texas who wins the lottery. This is Hollywood racial favouritism, the woke are wailing. To Leslie took a paltry $27,000 at the box office. Hardly anyone’s seen it. Apparently, it is only thanks to the noisy backing of ‘white stars’ – Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett – that ‘white actress’ Riseborough is in the running for this most prestigious of acting gongs. It really does pay to have ‘famous White friends’, says CNN. (Yes, CNN is now so drunk on the PC Kool-Aid that it capitalises races.)
If you or your child or your favorite nephew/niece (that last one is often the same person nowadays) are lucky enough to be enrolled in the University of Kansas (KU) this fall, be sure to register for a course that promises to plumb the depths of one of the most disturbing phenomena on the contemporary landscape: “Angry White Male Studies.” Yes, it’s real.
The Washington Examiner reports that Hayward Unified School District recently contacted Woke Kindergarten for a month-long training session for staffers at Glassbrook Elementary School, where they will be taught to “disrupt whiteness, white dominant/settler colonial narratives and anti-Blackness in the Glassbrook community.” Woke Kindergarten touts itself as a “global, abolitionist early childhood ecosystem & visionary creative portal.” It was founded by Akiea “Ki” Gross, who uses they/them pronouns.
Gross is described as an “abolitionist early educator, cultural organizer and creator currently innovating ways to resist, heal, liberate and create with their pedagogy, Woke Kindergarten,” in in the “who we are” section of Woke Kindergarten’s web site.
Eighth grade students at Hendersonville Middle School in North Carolina were given an assignment which required them to take steps forward or backward in response to a series of statements about their personal “opportunities and disadvantages.”

So now wearing second-hand clothes is a sign of ‘white privilege’. Just when you thought you’d heard it all from the loopy identity lobby, they come out with the idea that putting on a vintage dress or a musty old man’s shirt you bought from Oxfam is proof that you enjoy racial favouritism. This crackpot claim is made in a course being foisted on students at the University of Kent. If you can wear second-hand clobber without this being held up as yet another example of the ‘bad morals of [your] race’, then you are apparently white and you’re definitely privileged.
A school district in Washington state allegedly provided training to teachers that determined their “privilege” according to a “Privilege Pie” chart.
“One exercise in Tumwater School District’s ‘privilege’ training included ‘The Privilege Pie,’ where participants were told to color in sections prevalent to them, the teacher told advocacy group Parents Defending Education,” the Daily Caller reported. “The privileged identities included being white, a cisgender male, having an upper/middle class social status, Christian beliefs and a heterosexual sexual orientation.”
