Michael Higgins: Emperor Carney acting like he’s already in charge

When Augustus, Rome’s first emperor, seized control of the state, he liked to boast that he came to power because all of Italy “swore allegiance to me of its own free will.”

Now, the enthronement of Liberal leadership hopeful Mark Carney as the first emperor of Canada seems all but assured, as ministers, media and minions enthusiastically fawn over him.

Ivison: DEI screening comes before merit questions in Canadian university hiring

Diversity, equity and inclusion policies are “sadly lacking in idea diversity” and are driven by people who believe that racism explains everything, said Mark Milke, founder and president of the Aristotle Foundation on Public Policy.

Milke was talking to John Ivison about a new study of academic hiring practices at Canadian universities undertaken by the Aristotle Foundation.

The study found a near universal use of DEI policies to promote the equality of outcomes in the university system.

The woman said they were held captive on a ‘human farm’ in the eastern European country of Georgia by a criminal organisation led by Chinese criminals, who sold their eggs on the black market.

Buffy Sainte-Marie’s Order of Canada terminated by Governor General

Buffy Sainte-Marie’s Order of Canada has been terminated, nearly three decades after she was appointed in 1997.

The announcement comes more than a year after an investigation from CBC’s The Fifth Estate reported that her claims of Indigenous ancestry were inconsistent with publicly available documents.

The investigation, from Oct. 27, 2023, found Sainte-Marie’s birth certificate, which says she was born in 1941 in Massachusetts. The document lists the baby and parents as white and includes a signature of an attending physician — information CBC says is corroborated by Sainte-Marie’s marriage certificate, a life insurance policy and the United States census.

Trump Halts Funding to Build More Electric Vehicle Chargers Nationwide

The Trump administration has frozen funding for a $5 billion program to build a nationwide network of electric vehicle charging stations.

The Federal Highway Administration sent a letter Thursday to state transportation departments, telling them “no new funding obligations may occur” under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program.

The agency said it was suspending approved state implementation plans, which allow states to access NEVI funds automatically allocated through a congressionally created formula. FHA is also pausing approval of new plans; states submit plans annually, describing where and how they plan to build the chargers.

But it seemed like a great plan!

This article is from March 2024 – Biden’s $7.5 billion investment in EV charging has only produced 7 stations in two years

New Democrats need a new federal leader

The New Democratic Party is struggling, and in order to turn things around, Jagmeet Singh needs to step down as leader—immediately.

Singh has led the party through two elections in the past eight years. During that time, the NDP has failed to gain seats. They’ve struggled to break above 20 per cent. And Singh’s own favorability has reached an all-time low.

East Hampton Police Assure Wealthy Residents They Won’t Help ICE Deport Local Service Workers

Police in a wealthy enclave outside of New York City are assuring concerned residents that they will not be assisting federal immigration authorities in deporting local service workers.

Local officials in East Hampton, a town in the eastern part of Long Island, met with worried residents earlier this week to discuss President Donald Trump’s mass deportation program and how it might impact their community.

Police chief Michael Sarlo emphasized that officers are not agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and will only execute criminal warrants signed by a judge.

DOGE has gained access to FEMA’s sensitive disaster data

Elon Musk’s agents have gained access to FEMA’s sensitive disaster data

FEMA officials raised concerns that Trump could soon follow through on his pledge to dismantle the agency responsible for funding disaster relief.

Less than two weeks after President Donald Trump said his administration would consider making the Federal Emergency Management Agency “go away,” representatives of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency were at the agency and reviewing the grant programs it uses to help communities prepare for and respond to disasters, according to four current and two former FEMA officials.

The presence of DOGE at FEMA has caused uncertainty and confusion, raising fears that Trump could soon follow through on his pledge to dismantle the agency, as his administration is doing with the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Under Biden FEMA abandoned North Carolina. As soon as Trump was able he ordered all hands to come to that beleaguered state’s aid.

Follow this guy for the sorry FEMA saga that Trump is setting right.

Trump Should Shutter USAID — Development Economics Is a Hotbed for Corruption

The field of development economics ignores all the factors that make free-market countries successful — while lining the personal pockets of its advocates.

In 2007 New York City-based professor and economist William Easterly published his intentionally provocative book, White Man’s Burden: Why the West’s Efforts to Aid the Rest Have Done So Much Ill and So Little Good. In it, he argued that after more than half a century of Western aid to the “third world,” there was no positive correlation between the amount of money given and a rise in a recipient nation’s GDP.

This was followed by another book in 2014 by the same author called The Tyranny of Experts: Economists, Dictators, and the Forgotten Rights of the Poor. In this book, he carried his argument even further by pointing out that one of the main reasons that so many third-world countries were still “developing” is that Western experts have invented a field called “development economics.”

Donald Trump unveiled a task force to root out “anti-Christian bias” in government as he accused his predecessor Joe Biden of “persecuting” Christians during his presidency.

Speaking at two events in Washington for the annual National Prayer Breakfast, Trump announced a string of initiatives, including a presidential commission on religious liberty and a White House “faith office”.

Tulsi Gabbard, the Smear Machine, and the Battle for America’s Intelligence Integrity

In a time of growing distrust in institutions and blatant political double standards, the nomination of Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence (DNI) has exposed the festering rot in America’s political and intelligence establishment.

Gabbard is a decorated combat veteran and former congresswoman. Once hailed as a rising star in the Democrat party, she has since been relentlessly smeared—from being labeled a “Russian asset” to even being placed on a terrorist watchlist during the Biden-Harris administration. These attacks aren’t just absurd; they expose how deeply politicized the intelligence community has become.

‘If you genuinely think Trump is a fascist, go and have a lie down’

The Roman salute, the Sieg Heil, the YMCA dance. The comparison is so absurd it practically debunks itself.

Anyone who genuinely thinks that Trump’s America – whatever else you might think of the man or his policies – can be mentioned in the same breath as fascist Italy or Nazi Germany needs to get a grip.

Because let’s be clear about what we are talking about here. Fascism, and especially its Nazi incarnation, was an evil the like of which the world had never seen before. Or, thankfully, since.
