‘Respectable’ rock snobs once laughed at metal – but they’re not laughing now

On the weekend of June 17 2021, in the midst of an airborne disease, live music returned to the UK in something like a recognisable form. As a compliment of British bands entertained an audience of 10,000 vaccinated revellers, over three days and nights this section of the concert-going community helped plot a hesitant course back to normality. Never mind that the Download “Pilot” festival was a mere one-tenth of its normal size – the volume was operating at full-whack. Because when it came to duking it out with a global pandemic, rightly and inevitably, there was only one kind of music up to the job. Metal.

Excluded for the Crime of Whiteness

The overt betrayal of the white working-class on the grounds of innate privilege is a contemptible policy. It’s high-time that those in authority put a stop to it.

Ienjoy a good whinge as much as the next man, but I have to say the relentless carping about whiteness is getting a little tiresome. The grievance industry has now progressed to the stage where even the royal family has no business being white; white victims of serious crime are essentially ignored; and those who make the effort not to be white consider themselves somehow deserving of reparations. In their wisdom, the identitarian Left have distilled all society’s ills into a single phenomenon: white men, or the ‘patriarchy’ as the euphemism goes.

Doug Ford says this mining region is a top priority. Ottawa doesn’t necessarily agree

OTTAWA—Federal Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson cast doubt on hopes for a mining bonanza in Ontario’s “Ring of Fire,” saying there are better projects that can be developed easier in areas closer to existing infrastructure.

It’s the latest sign the Trudeau government isn’t yet convinced the region in the province’s vast, environmentally sensitive northern peatlands is the best place for new mining, even as it tries to make Canada an international powerhouse in critical minerals needed to power the global shift to a greener, low-carbon economy.

Translated that means projects in Quebec will have first crack at the slush fund.

Refrigerator SOS … Fridge Cat Habitat Is On Verge Of Collapse!

So last time I checked in my dishwasher was made normal by a simple reset process.

Of course appliance happiness is not made to last.

It was way back in 2012 that Kath and I had a fridge give up the ghost on us.

Replacing the compressor cost near as much as a new fridge.

Overnight the replacement we purchased just over a decade ago began working improperly.

The freezer works great, the fresh food section is no longer maintaining a cool temp.

This could be due to a number of reasons, coils need cleaning, fan failure or vent blockage.

It was a major effort to pull the fridge out from the counter.

It was stuck fast. This is what happens when you live like an 8 year old.

I had to rely on an incantation to K for inspiration.

Kathy Kathy come real quick

There’s a problem that needs a fix.

Damn but they work. I freed the stuck fast fridge in a heavenly hurry.

I have an incantation for lost items as well and to date it has only failed me once.

It seems that each appliance repair runs about 400 bucks. Both the washer and dryer have needed fixing and that has been the cost for each visit. Next time I will just replace them if possible.

Now I am wondering if 11 years is good lifespan for a fridge in this day and age.

Maybe it’s time for a new one or maybe a reader has an idea to fix my current one.

Let me know if you have a fix or a recommendation for a new one.

Carson Jerema: Trudeau Liberals were the perfect mark for electric vehicle grifters

You may have heard that the Canadian and Ontario governments are spending up to $15 billion to ensure Chrysler-maker Stellantis builds an electric battery plant in Windsor. From this news, it might be reasonable to conclude that Stellantis is in the business of making batteries, but that would be incorrect. It is quite clear that Stellantis is, instead, in the business of securing government subsidies.

Attendance Drops Off at First National Jamboree of New, Inclusive Boy Scouts

A seminal moment in the lives of tens of thousands of young men occurred in 2017 when they attended the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) National Jamboree, where they were addressed by President Donald Trump. The Jambo traditionally has always been a transformative experience for the youths who attend it — two weeks away from their families in a tween- and teen-boy paradise, a sylvan Never Land where they can belch and play with cool, nerdy stuff and whittle and stink without having to worry about impressing girls or being nagged not to do something dangerous.

Paris to charge SUV drivers higher parking fees to tackle ‘auto-besity’

Paris city hall is to impose higher parking fees on owners of SUVs in its battle to reduce pollution in the capital.

Details of the charges have not been announced but the size, weight of the vehicle and its motor will be taken into consideration.

Electric vehicles and those with large families requiring a bigger car are expected to escape the increased fees that will come into effect on 1 January 2024.

Smaller cars will reduce the carbon footprint of the nightly Car-B-Q’s

France on the Verge of Chaos?

June 27, 2023. Nanterre, in the western suburbs of Paris, shortly before 8 a.m. Two policemen on a motorcycle try to stop a car. The driver, 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk, is obviously dangerous, driving erratically, barely avoiding people crossing the street. A 15-second video circulating on social networks shows the car stopped, with the two policemen aiming their weapons at Merzouk. One policeman, gun drawn, leans his elbow on the windshield. He tells Merzouk to turn off the engine and place his hands above his head. The car drives off. The policeman shoots at the car. Merzouk is shot and dies shortly after.
