It has been nearly six months since Putin launched his invasion of Ukraine, but for Europe, the worst is yet to come. Already companies are contemplating shutting down production, including aluminium smelters in Slovakia and fertilizer producers in the UK. Corporations need to plan long term, and forward contracts for electricity (which are supposed to lock in energy costs) are at all-time highs for 2023 and 2024.

It’s Time to Award the Covid Nobels
But they shouldn’t go to you-know-WHO.
The frontrunner for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, according to the bets placed with British bookmakers, is the World Health Organization. It’s hard to imagine a worse choice. (Okay, Vladimir Putin.) The bettors’ theory is that the Nobel committee will honor the WHO for its efforts in fighting Covid-19—but it would be absurd to reward an organization that began the pandemic by spreading deadly misinformation, went on to promote disastrous policies, and now seeks new powers to do even more damage next time.
Two teen girls charged with hate crimes in Queens ‘anti-white’ bus attack
Two teenage girls accused of an “anti-white” attack on a Queens woman riding an MTA bus were arrested on Tuesday and charged with hate crimes, according to police.
The suspects, 15 and 16, are facing assault and aggravated harassment raps over the ugly July 9 attack that left the 57-year-old victim, Jill LeCroix, bloodied enough she required three staples to her head, police said.
Both charges were classified as hate crimes, the NYPD said. A third suspect is still being sought.
Turkey: Torture Has Reached “Unprecedented Levels”
“Torture,” read a joint statement by Turkey’s Human Rights Association (İHD) and the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV) “is still Turkey’s most important problem… Torture and other forms of ill-treatment in the streets and open areas, as well as in unofficial places of detention, have reached unprecedented levels in Turkey.”
Congress considering rescinding Medals of Honor for soldiers that participated in Wounded Knee Massacre
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – Lawmakers might soon strip some U.S. soldiers from the nineteenth century of the nation’s highest military award.
Earlier this month, the House of Representatives passed a defense bill that included an amendment to revoke the Medal of Honor from some 20 soldiers who took part in the massacre near Wounded Knee Creek in South Dakota in 1890. Mandan-Hidatsa-Arikara Nation Chairman Mark Fox says he’s happy with those who advanced the legislation.

‘Leave It to Beaver’ star Tony Dow dead at 77 after premature announcement
Tony Dow, best known for his role as big brother Wally in the classic TV sitcom “Leave It to Beaver” has died. He was 77.
“We have received confirmation from Christopher, Tony’s son, that Tony passed away earlier this morning, with his loving family at his side to see him through this journey,” an announcement read on Dow’s Facebook account Wednesday afternoon.

Stellantis offering retirement incentives to workers at Windsor, Brampton plants
Stellantis is offering a “retirement incentive program” to employees at its Ontario assembly plants in Windsor and Brampton ahead of a multibillion-dollar shift to electric vehicle production, but the automaker is not commenting on how much it expects to shrink its workforce.
In a statement on Tuesday, the company formerly known as Fiat Chrysler said the incentives are for eligible employees.
