Utopian energy is an imagined form of energy that’s abundant, reliable, inexpensive, and also clean, renewable, and life-sustaining. But utopian energy is as much a fantasy as a utopian society. Seeking the fount of perfect energy allows us to pretend there aren’t real-world tradeoffs between, say, banning fossil fuels and helping people in impoverished nations or between using solar and wind power and conserving natural habitats.
Canadian Heritage announced that they will not allow Canadians to participate in the annual Canada Day celebration at Parliament Hill after two years of cancelling it due to COVID.
A continuous trajectory it is. With Covid as a baseline, the Liberal government of Canada are methodically eroding the meaning of being Canadian. Once a source of national pride, Canada Day has degenerated into a viper’s pit of anger and resentment.
The RCMP has admitted to using spyware and other questionable methods to hack into phones and other electronic devices.

Just one week after Canadian Heritage and CRTC officials provided assurances to a Senate committee that the Commission’s regulatory powers over freedom of expression were constrained by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the CRTC yesterday released a ruling in which the majority ignored the Charter altogether in regulating content on Radio-Canada. The decision signals how Bill C-11 could be used to regulate Internet content the CRTC deems contrary to Broadcasting Act policy objectives. It also continues a disturbing trend of revelations that have come in the aftermath of Canadian Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez cutting off debate to rush the bill through the House of Commons: officials later admitting that the $1B claim of benefits is merely an “illustrative” estimate, CRTC Chair Ian Scott opening the door to indirect algorithmic regulation, and now the release of a decision on content regulation that dates back to November 2020.

There really isn’t another way to politely describe them. In their unhinged protests, they wear the white of the initiates. They spatter themselves with red paints and dyes to represent blood against their white garments. This is a a death cult. They are like religious fanatics of some Dark Age, shrieking, so twisted now with anger as to be unrecognizable in their fury and righteousness. And loudly demonstrating outside churches like St. Patrick’s Cathedral they screamed:
“F—the church! F—-the state! You can’t make us procreate!!!”
To them, theirs is a religious fight. Roe v Wade was their church. And abortion their sacrament. And now that Roe has been reversed. They fear the loss of this sacrament. They have become unglued.
For decades, the EPA has been like the mob. The people aren’t the ones setting the regulations, and neither is Congress. Instead, it’s a random department of the executive branch that goes around telling businesses to get with the program or be closed down forever.

Most of us are aware of the countless beheadings carried out by ISIS during their reign of terror and horror in Iraq and Syria. Other Islamic terror groups from Al-Shabaab in Somalia, Boko Haram in Nigeria, and the Afghanistan Taliban had a healthy share of mass killings on their hands. Then there was the video of American journalist Daniel Pearl being killed on camera in Pakistan.

As usual this policy was concocted by woke politicians and not approved by the voters, who might be less than enthusiastic about the notion of replacing police officers with 30 unarmed “security ambassadors”.
Jordan Peterson has been temporarily suspended from using Twitter after the social media platform said he violated the site’s hateful conduct policy.
On June 28, the controversial author, clinical psychologist and professor emeritus at the University of Toronto lost access to most of his Twitter account features because of a tweet he posted earlier in the week that used transgender actor Elliot Page’s former name and suggested he had his “breasts removed by a criminal physician.”
Ellen Page is not a well person. Her public episodes should be warning enough to the media to cease encouraging her to act out.
The institutions that used to unite the country now bitterly divide it
Here’s a fun fact: almost half of Americans believe that there will be a civil war in their lifetimes. Less fun fact: they could be right. To observe the United States today is to watch a country that cannot get on with itself. Some people say that it has always been like this – that there was never any chance of a country as wide and big as America being able to agree on things. These people then point to the genius of the federalist system, and the way in which different states could have different arrangements within the union.
The creative elites are completely out of touch with ordinary people.
It’s slightly disconcerting when you make a decision that you think goes against the grain of the generality, and then you find out everybody else is doing exactly the same thing. When I cancelled my Netflix subscription earlier this year I thought I was being thrillingly unconventional. But only a few days later, the news broke that I was definitely not alone. Maybe we were all sat there, millions of us it transpires, sighing as we scrolled sideways along those seemingly endless menu cards – each one representing somebody’s creative dream, each one utterly generic – all of us thinking: ‘This may be popular with the rude masses, but none of it appeals to my highly refined taste!’
I do subscribe to Netflix and also to Amazon Prime.
Through the worst of last year there were many long nights that I sat numb in front of the TV binge watching whatever looked like it might promise escape.
My sleep was badly disrupted and whenever I did awake I would tune back in for the “company” if the automated shut off had kicked in.
I discovered Netflix has some good content and I have been impressed with a lot of the Euro series, DARK, Money Heist, Babylon Berlin, Norsemen – who knew Swedes could be funny?
Now I fall asleep having failed to find anything that looks bingeable. I literally wake up with the clicker in hand having watched nothing.
On occasion I have tuned in a show only to remember that I did in fact sorta watch it through the longest hours of last year but it somehow left no impression.
My tastes in flicks are not as refined as Kathy’s and I miss watching her recommendations together. Even her taste in “Junk” was more sophisticated than mine.
I suspect I will cancel Netflix. Prime and “free” Tubi offer enough to fall asleep by and the budget says one has to go.
The federal government shouldn’t be telling K-12 teachers to monitor and discipline students for holding certain political views. But it’s part of a project the Department of Canadian Heritage paid $268,400 to do.
Back in the days of Roman imperial decadence, at least according to legend, the emperor Caligula demonstrated his unfitness for office and the dangers of public indifference and complacency when he appointed his horse Incitatus a senator. Woke America hasn’t reached such an advanced stage of imperial decadence that we have a horse in the Senate; all we have is a dog in the Department of Energy.

Canadian Forces veteran James Topp was joined by Conservative Party leadership candidate Pierre Poilievre on his march through Ottawa today, as part of the final leg of his cross-country march to protest COVID-19 vaccine requirements.
Topp’s arrival comes as Ottawa prepares to host the first in-person Canada Day events in three years, and the city braces for possible protests through the weekend and into the summer.
Hundreds of people, including People’s Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier, gathered on Robertson Road in the west end to greet Topp at 10 a.m. Friday, as he started the walk to Parliament Hill. Supporters were holding Canadian flags and signs supporting Topp and protesting mandates.

Behave yourselves this time, protesters.
That’s the message to Ottawa-bound demonstrators from Premier Doug Ford, who backed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s use of emergency powers to end the illegal blockade around Parliament Hill last winter.
Ford said it’s “disappointing” and “not fair” that the so-called “freedom convoy” is returning on Canada Day.
