National inquiry into PM Trudeau’s use of Emergencies Act to end convoy kicks off

OTTAWA – A national inquiry into the federal government’s use of the Emergencies Act to bring an end to the “Freedom Convoy” trucker protests and blockades has been launched, with a mandate to examine the circumstances that led to the use of the Act, and the measures taken through it to deal with the emergency situation.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has named Paul S. Rouleau to lead the “Public Order Emergency Commission,” which will have the better part of the next year to lead the independent public inquiry before having to present a final report to both the House of Commons and Senate within 360 days after the revocation of the emergency declaration.

Russia has already ‘failed’ in Ukraine, U.S. says amid promise for more military aid

The United States promised on Monday to reopen its embassy in Kyiv soon, as Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Ukraine’s capital and hailed its success so far against Russia’s invasion.

Both men said the fact they were able to come to Kyiv was proof of Ukraine’s tenacity in forcing Moscow to abandon an assault on the capital last month, and promised more aid to fend off Russian troops now attempting an advance in the east.

There is no disputing that Ukraine’s armed forces have performed admirably and in the process shamed Russia’s military.

No war lasts forever but how long can the effort be sustained if needed? 

Will NATO/EU solidarity hold given the reliance on Russian gas and oil by member states?

Can anyone afford trust in the Biden Potemkin Presidency?

RCMP considered charging Trudeau with fraud over 2016 Aga Khan trip, access-to-information request shows

The RCMP considered charging Justin Trudeau with fraud over a family vacation at the Aga Khan’s private island in the Bahamas, but decided against doing so because it was unclear if the Prime Minister had the authority to approve the all-expenses-paid gift for himself.

RCMP documents from 2019, recently released in response to an access-to-information request, outline the force’s investigation into the 2016 Trudeau family Christmas vacation at the Ismaili Muslim leader’s luxurious retreat. The documents reveal the Mounties looked at whether they could charge Mr. Trudeau with breach of trust or fraud based on the findings in a report from the federal Ethics Commissioner.

The December 2017 report, issued by former ethics commissioner Mary Dawson, concluded that Mr. Trudeau had violated four sections of the Conflict of Interest Act by accepting the vacation, because there was ongoing official business between the federal government and the Aga Khan.

So the RCMP weren’t sure that Justin was allowed to authorize personal graft. That’s some loophole, pure Banana Republic standards.

Racism report to take CAF to task for not doing more over past 20 years

OTTAWA – Defence Minister Anita Anand will release a highly anticipated report this morning that is expected to take the military to task for not doing enough to address racism in the ranks over the past two decades.
The report is the result of a yearlong review by a panel of retired Canadian Armed Forces members tasked with identifying ways to address hate, racism and discrimination in the ranks.

The review was launched in December 2020 amid concerns about systemic racism in the military, as well as reported links between some members with hate groups, right-wing extremism and white supremacy.

What about Woke Supremacy?

Ukraine war: US wants to see a weakened Russia

US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin has said he hopes Russian losses in Ukraine will deter its leadership from repeating its actions.

He added that Ukraine can still win the war if given the right support and praised the efforts of its military.

“We want to see Russia weakened to the degree that it can’t do the kinds of things that it has done in invading Ukraine,” the US military chief said.

Mr Austin was speaking after meeting President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.

Twitter set to accept Musk’s $43 bln offer – sources

NEW YORK, April 25 (Reuters) – Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) is poised to agree a sale to Elon Musk for around $43 billion in cash, the price the chief executive of Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) has called his “best and final” offer for the social media company, people familiar with the matter said.

Twitter may announce the $54.20-per-share deal later on Monday once its board has met to recommend the transaction to Twitter shareholders, the sources said. It is always possible that the deal collapses at the last minute, the sources added.

Canada eyes new measures to protect economy from national security threats

New measures to ensure Canada doesn’t export sensitive technology to foreign adversaries are among the changes being eyed by Ottawa to bolster the country’s economic security.

Other possibilities include making it easier to fine companies that fail to comply with investment screening rules and mapping supply chains to identify critical vulnerabilities, according to a federal consultation paper.
