President Joe Biden vowed Friday to ‘mobilize every resource’ to get Americans and Afghan allies out of Afghanistan – and took questions, from a pre-approved list of White House reporters, about the conflict for the first time in nine days.

‘This is one of the largest difficult airlifts in history and the only country in the world capable of projecting this much power on the far side of the world with this degree of precision is the United States of America,’ Biden said.

He insisted that the chaotic takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban, leading to disarray at Kabul’s airport as westerners and Afghans flee, did not taint the U.S.’s global reputation.

Mandatory vaccines are coming to a workplace near you

If you work for a Canadian small- or mid-sized business, chances are high you may be required to get a COVID-19 vaccine to keep your job.

A survey of business owners conducted by audit, tax and advisory firm KPMG shows a significant 62 per cent are making or planning vaccine mandates for their workers. In some cases, they also want customers to show proof of vaccination.

Befuddled – thinks Taiwan is in Florida

A senior Biden administration official said US policy on Taiwan had not changed after President Joe Biden appeared to suggest the US would defend the island if it were attacked, a deviation from a long-held US position of “strategic ambiguity”.

In an interview aired by ABC News on Thursday, Biden was asked about the effects of the chaotic US withdrawal from Afghanistan and responses in Chinese media telling Taiwan this showed Washington could not be relied on to come to its defence.

A cockroach infestation at a Toronto Community Housing building has left more than 100 seniors without mail for nearly a month, cutting some off from their pension cheques, bills and doctors’ letters without notice.

Two residents, Joseph Quirk and Wayne Youngs, say Canada Post stopped daily mail delivery to Kensington Manor, at 34 Oxford St., in July after all three mail rooms became overrun by the roaches.

None of the residents were officially informed of the change, or notified about how they could get their mail in the meantime, they said.

The document was first made public in 2012 but has been brought back to light and given new significance amid the chaotic US withdrawal from Afghanistan that has gifted the country back to the Taliban.

Trudeau seen as best pick for PM say those offered incentive for poll response

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is seen as the best candidate for prime minister among the party leaders vying for the job in the federal election, according to a new poll, with 39 per cent of Canadians saying he should get a third term.

But the Ipsos poll conducted exclusively for Global News found an even larger number of those surveyed — 44 per cent — feel Trudeau will say anything to get elected, while 36 per cent said he has a hidden agenda. Both numbers also outstrip the other party leaders, suggesting Trudeau is facing trust issues while remaining the frontrunner in the campaign.
