Your love of Kathy and Mom along with your kind words and prayers have had an immeasurably positive effect on my ability to cope.
Since lockdown restrictions have been eased to a reasonable degree I have been able to make funeral arrangements.
Kathy will be laid to rest in early September, I will announce the time and place as the day draws near for those wishing to attend. Mom will be laid to rest in August.

Like all political parties, the Liberal Party is a coalition of ideologues and opportunists: those who enter politics to get something done, and those who are in it for something to do. It has ever been thus.
What has changed is the correspondence between the two. In previous generations, the ideologues made use of the opportunists to achieve their ends. To do things like, say, medicare, you first had to get into government. If that meant consorting with rather less high-minded types – thugs, to be blunt, but thugs skilled at getting elected – so be it. For the ideologues, the ends justified the means.
Today the relationship is the reverse.

Covid: Delta variant spreads globally as cases soar
The Delta variant of Covid-19 has now been detected in 124 territories worldwide, the World Health Organization (WHO) says.
It is expected to become the dominant variant globally in the coming months, with the WHO predicting that there could be more than 200 million confirmed cases within a matter of weeks.
Infections are rising, particularly in Europe and the western Pacific region. Some Western countries have started to ease restrictions as death rates have dropped. But those without access to vaccines or with a slower vaccine rollout are facing a deadlier threat.

Report: Therapy Is Often Successful at Treating Gender Dysphoria
Twenty-four states have banned the use of psychological therapy to treat the condition.
Transgender activists repeatedly assert that the only way to help someone who experiences gender dysphoria (meaning a person feels they are the opposite sex) is for that person to medically “transition.”
Therapeutic efforts with a counselor or psychologist to help someone overcome his or her gender dysphoria are today classified under the umbrella of “conversion therapy” and are widely denounced as evil and abusive. For instance, the Human Rights Campaign describes conversion therapy as “a range of dangerous and discredited practices that falsely claim to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.”

Critical race theory deserves the criticism it’s getting
CRT is a far more dangerous and one-sided attack on the entire range of education standards than previous curricula.
A front-page story (“A new wedge issue in campaign,” July 18) and a commentary(“What CRT looks like in my classroom,” July 17) recently criticized the critics of critical race theory, or at least of the “straw man” the critics are said to have created.
The critics’ critics claim is that the real critical race theory is a mere corrective addition to the “current” school history standards, which supposedly omits discussion of slavery, racism, Native American/settler conflict and other American shortcomings. This is either naiveté or plain falsehood.

A few days ago, Rep. Cori Bush of ultra-woke fame, to the point where she makes Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez look sane, posted a series of racist messages on Twitter. She claimed they had been sent to her as threats and that she had turned them over to the FBI.

Chas Bayfield and colleague Dave Jenner, who were among five men axed from J. Walter Thompson (JWT) after bosses ‘urgently’ wanted to address its poor gender pay gap, have expressed relief after winning a sex discrimination claim against the company.
A damning gender pay gap report had sent ‘shock waves’ through the firm as it highlighted there was a serious lack of female representation, a tribunal heard.

To borrow a clangorous platitude from popular psychology, Canada has to address its problem of low self-esteem. There are several prominent indications of this problem. The second-largest province, Quebec, with about 24 per cent of the total population, about a fifth of them English- rather than French-speaking, is proposing unilaterally to amend the Canadian Constitution (which it has not officially ratified), in order to restrain the use English within its borders. All the political parties, in Quebec and federally, apparently welcome this development.
Like many of you I am not counting on a Canadian resurgence.
Our political and corporate class have deliberately balkanized the populace for their own greed driven ends.
They lie about the so called benefits of mass immigration when in fact all it offers is a smaller piece of a shrinking pie.
We are approaching 3rd world status. Politically we’re nearly there, a fading nation governed by parties and a bureaucracy that cares nothing for you and I and even less for the law.

DC Police Chief Unleashes On Capital’s Lawlessness: ‘You Cannot Coddle Violent Criminals’
D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee slammed his community’s “unacceptable” violence during a lengthy impromptu speech on Friday, following two men being shot near restaurants on Thursday night in a popular area of northwest D.C.
Amid gunshots, diners had to flee their tables for safety, after which two shooting victims were taken to the hospital. Contee emphasized that such violence is becoming the norm in the nation’s capital.
