We are on the cusp of a significant mass starvation event of our own making. Soon, tens of millions of the world’s most impoverished people will die from an inability to feed themselves, while many of those comfortably getting by now – especially in the Western World – are in for a shock.
Conservative Party of Canada leadership candidate Jean Charest is claiming the Freedom Convoy “terrorized” and “laid siege to” Ottawa, and that his rival Pierre Poilievre “appeals to the fringe minority.”
The former Quebec Liberal premier made the claims in a campaign mail-out obtained by True North. It appears to have been sent exclusively to Ottawa residents, although Charest’s campaign team would not confirm – opting instead to say that “over 50,000 letters have been sent nationwide so far.”

The U.S. stockpile of diesel fuel, which is vital for the transportation sector and economy at large, hit a nearly two-decade low as fuel prices hit a record high Wednesday.
The nationwide stockpile of distillate fuel oil — a category that includes diesel and fuel oil — declined to about 104 million barrels, the lowest level since May 2005, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported Wednesday. East Coast inventories declined to 21.3 million barrels of diesel fuel or about two weeks worth of supply, the lowest level since data was first recorded in 1990.
“These are mind-numbing, eye-popping prices that … is probably not sustainable for most Canadians on fixed incomes/middle class,” said Dan McTeague of Gas Wizard, also president of Canadians for Affordable Energy.
“I think it’s fair to say most Canadians are taking a pounding on this and it’s not the ones who drive for kicks and giggles, it’s the ones that need this to get to work…. And it will be long term.”
Doug Ford has staked his re-election bid on “rebuilding Ontario’s economy with better jobs and bigger paycheques.”
He mentions the push for jobs at every opportunity and always ties it in with his campaign slogan of “Getting it done.”

The federal government is turning to Canadians, as it hurriedly tries to pull together a plan to make the country more resilient to the ravages of climate change.

There’s good news and bad news about Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s carbon tax for residents of the four provinces where it applies — Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The good news is that starting July 15 and four times annually after that, individuals and families living in these provinces are going to receive tax-free cheques, or direct deposit payments if they prefer, from the Trudeau government under its Climate Action Incentive Payment Plan.
Previously the rebates were a refundable tax credit, claimed on income tax returns.
The bad news is that, according to Yves Giroux, Parliament’s independent, non-partisan budget officer, most people receiving these cheques (60%), will pay a lot more in annual carbon taxes than they get back in carbon tax payments, and will do so every year up to 2030, at least.

If you want to know how the war is going in Ukraine, you only needed to take note of one piece of “news” today–Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin called his Russian counterpart:
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin spoke with his Russian counterpart for the first time since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Pentagon announced on Friday.
The call lasted approximately an hour and was at the request of Austin, who used the first call between the two in 84 days to urge Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to implement an “immediate ceasefire,” according to a brief readout of the call. The two last spoke on February 18, a week before Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine.
If Russia was losing or completely stuck in Ukraine, one would expect that Sergei Shoigu would be the guy calling Austin and begging for mercy. Well, that is not what happened. It was Austin that placed the call, apparently unconcerned about his recent public call to weaken Russia. Why would Austin urge Shoigu to implement an “immediate ceasefire” if Russia was getting its ass kicked? Russia getting whipped by Ukraine is exactly what Austin has called for.

It is typically quite difficult to get media coverage as a new outsider party in Canadian politics due to niche appeal early on, but despite the New Blue Party of Ontario only being a bit more than a year old it is polling similarly to the Green Party, has a popular MPP running for reelection, and has a full slate of candidates contesting the 2022 provincial election.
Although one would assume a party that is polling up to 5 percent (in polls they are included in) and “Other” polling indicating New Blue has strength in Southwest and Southern Ontario, the legacy media does not think they are worth hearing from at the leaders’ debates.
On May 5, when Catherine Engelbrecht of True the Vote went on Tucker Carlson’s FOX News show to discuss election fraud, she very strangely did not mention the name of the movie, 2,000 MULES, she had produced with Dinesh D’Souza. The movie she thought she was there to promote, the one premiering that week.
Apparently, she’d been instructed not to.
The resulting conversation was bizarre. According to D’Souza, just before the interview, Tucker and producer Justin Wells quickly got with Engelbrecht and, incredibly, told her she couldn’t say the name of her film on the air. And she was forbidden to say the election was stolen. So if her speech during this interview seemed a little halting and unsure, it’s likely because she was self-editing on the fly.
Even as his government stubbornly ignores local and national trends toward lifting mask mandates, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is proving extremely willing to go maskless himself — provided it happens on foreign soil.
On May 8, the prime minister was in Ukraine, a country that saw only 45 per cent of its adult population fully vaccinated on the eve of the Russian invasion. There were hugs with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, handshakes with Ukrainian officials and tightly packed indoor press events. In not one image can Trudeau be seen wearing a mask.
Compare that to two days prior, when Trudeau visited Hamilton, Ont. for a photo op with recently arrived Afghan refugees.
Last June, the Biden administration unveiled its “National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism.” Despite its anodyne-sounding name, the “National Strategy” was anything but anodyne.

Heavily redacted documents obtained by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation under an access to information request show the prime minister asked for analysis of a $60-billion wealth tax. With deficits looming to the far horizon, it must be a tempting cash grab.
