Denouncing The Diagolonoids

A Canadian right-wing nut is peddling a satirical meme about a diagonally-shaped North American superstate. Needless to say, much of the country’s intellectual class is terrified.

Last month, Pierre Poilievre, the populist front-runner in the race to become leader of Canada’s federal Conservative party, was photographed shaking hands with Jeremy MacKenzie, a former soldier facing weapons and harassment charges. MacKenzie is an odd duck who combines a penchant for extremist right-wing rhetoric with a predilection for ironic Internet memes. But almost no one in Canada knew his name until that now infamous handshake. As for Poilievre, he says he didn’t recognize MacKenzie, or form any particular memory of having met him—a claim that even progressive journalists have admitted is entirely credible.

Or you could do the smart thing and use it to teach some history.

US Heading Toward China’s Cultural Revolution, Warns Asian-American Coalition for Education President

The United States is dangerously close to repeating China’s Cultural Revolution, according to the Asian-American Coalition for Education president and author Mike Zhao.

“The communist playbook, unfortunately, … they used to destroy China during the Cultural Revolution … 50 years ago. Today, the radical left uses the same playbook to destroy America,” Zhao said in a recent interview with NTD News, The Epoch Times’ sister media.

Stupid Snowflakes Ruin Cool Books For Everyone

German publisher pulls Winnetou books amid racial stereotyping row

A German publisher has announced it is withdrawing two new books paying tribute to a highly popular character in children’s fiction after facing accusations of racism and cultural appropriation.

Ravensburger Verlag, a leading publisher of children’s books in the German-speaking world, said its latest books on Winnetou, a fictional Native American hero who made his debut in 1875, would be pulled from its schedule and that it would also be considering whether to continue publishing other Winnetou titles in future.

Bookshops have reportedly been stopped from ordering the books from Ravensburger and they also appeared to have been pulled from Amazon on Tuesday. Editions by other publishers were still available.

Exclusive — University of Virginia Newspaper Calls to Remove Thomas Jefferson: ‘Buildings Must Be Renamed and Memorials Removed’

The University and the greater Charlottesville, Virginia, area in which it is located has taken it upon themselves to be defined not by academics, or history, or any other trait. Rather, those in charge of local government and University administration prefer to be defined by a single characteristic: the August 12, 2017, “Unite the Right” rally.

One week ago was the five-year anniversary of the rally, and Charlottesville residents and University students and alumni were reliably accosted by “never forget”-style messages, being told that everyone needed to “do more” to atone for what happened there.

Do you want free speech to thrive? Then it has to be regulated, now more than ever

Freedom of speech is one of the most slippery concepts in political philosophy. John Stuart Mill pronounced it absolute but qualified it, as he did all liberties, where it causes “harm” to others. On that tenuous footing has grown an edifice of laws on slander, libel, incitement and, more recently, the causing of offence.

UK University ‘forces out’ diversity adviser for supporting bullied professor who resigned after threats from trans activists

“Far-Left” university bosses have been accused of forcing out their own diversity adviser after staff protested that criticism of transgender activism was “threatening”.

The equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) adviser at the University of Sheffield had been employed for more than two years working on LGBT+ inclusion and a race equality action plan.

But in October last year, his colleagues from a trade union complained to managers about him signing a “statement of solidarity” with Prof Kathleen Stock, the philosophy expert who quit the University of Sussex after a lengthy bullying campaign by trans activists.

Hard-left academics ‘plotted gender ID witch-hunt’ on colleagues

Staff planned to ‘inform’ on those they believed were transphobic, The Times reveals

A group of hard-left academics has been accused of stifling free speech on university campuses by plotting a witch-hunt against colleagues on gender identity.

University and College Union (UCU) members pledged to compile a list of university backroom staff suspected of holding gender-critical beliefs, the minutes from a meeting leaked to The Times reveal.

The plan was to use this information to “inform” UCU university branches of their colleagues’ views, accusing them of being “transphobes” and “gender-critical activists”.

The Point of No Return

This is an election year. But the issues this year are not about Democrats and Republicans. The big issue is whether this nation has degenerated to a point of no return — a point where we risk destroying ourselves, before our enemies can destroy us.

If there is one moment that symbolized our degeneration, it was when an enraged mob gathered in front of the Supreme Court and a leader of the United States Senate shouted threats against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, saying “You won’t know what hit you!”

There have always been irresponsible demagogues. But there was once a time when anyone who shouted threats to a Supreme Court Justice would see the end of his own political career, and could not show his face in decent society again.

You either believe in laws or you believe in mob rule. It doesn’t matter whether you agree with the law or agree with the mob on some particular issue. If threats of violence against judges — and publishing where a judge’s children go to school — is the way to settle issues, then there is not much point in having elections or laws.
