Surely there must have been people in cabinet, in caucus, who could have told Ford he was yet again courting disaster. Instead he blundered straight into it.

President Joe Biden ran on a platform that condemned former President Donald Trump as unfit, embarrassing, and reckless, but while Biden might complain that Trump will “go down in history as being one of the most irresponsible presidents,” his administration appears to be using the Republican’s decisions, policies, and stances to inform their own.
It may seem counter-intuitive, but Canada’s Conservative Party is seeking short-term success in a way that ironically makes that success far more elusive.

Justin Trudeau seems to love nothing more than getting some tears to well up in his eyes and solemnly apologizing for Canada’s past.
He has no problem calling Canada’s history racist and prejudiced, and even accused Canada of being complicit in an ongoing genocide – which would of course include the time he’s been in power as well.
A friend recently asked what Erin O’Toole was thinking bringing forward a Conservative convention resolution that “climate change is real” instead of saying “man-made climate change” or specifying policy options. Which, though superficially very sensible, seemed to me to incorporate a major invalid assumption.
Namely that O’Toole was thinking, as you or I might use that word.
