Doctors were forced to apologise for raising alarm over Lucy Letby and baby deaths

Lucy Letby’s colleagues were ordered to apologise to her after repeatedly raising concerns that the nurse may have been behind a series of unexplained baby deaths, the Guardian has learned.

Monster

Senior doctors had warned for months that Letby was the only staff member present during the sudden collapses and deaths of a number of premature babies on the Countess of Chester hospital’s neonatal unit.

She was not removed from the ward until early July 2016, a year after a doctor first alerted a hospital executive to a potential link. By that time she had murdered seven babies and attempted to kill another six, a court found on Friday.

I have purposely avoided posting on this.  It is a horror story.

Germany: Fake Fräulein Eco-Nuisance Hopes To Avoid Sentence In Men’s Prison

Penelope Frank is a climate activist with the Last Generation group who glued herself to the tarmac of the Berlin airport in late 2022. Frank is standing trial for disrupting air traffic, and if convicted could be sentenced to a prison term.

She identifies as a woman, but on paper, her sex is classified as male — and therefore she would be sent to a men’s prison if she were to be convicted.

Will Ford sign off on Toronto’s sales tax? Council will need to make the case for revenue tool

A major piece of Toronto’s new plan to address its long-term fiscal woes hinges on the cooperation of Doug Ford, as the city faces the daunting task of persuading the premier to support a municipal sales tax.

That tax is part of a slew of new “revenue tools” proposed by city staff as a way to address over $46.5 billion in financial pressure faced by Toronto over the next decade. The city’s financial problems have been mounting for years but were made worse by the pandemic as the shelter system strained under the pressure of increased demand and transit ridership — and revenues — hit rock bottom.

Five men found guilty of sexually exploiting two girls in Rochdale, grooming gang capital of the UK

Two brothers are among five men from Rochdale to have been found guilty of sexually exploiting two girls from the ages of 12 and 13.

The girls were “mere objects for the defendants to use, abuse, humiliate then discard”, Manchester Minshull Street crown court heard.

The jury had been warned not to be prejudiced against the defendants simply because of where they were from, with one defence barrister saying Rochdale had become “synonymous with grooming”.

The men had denied 80 counts dating back to 2002 and 2006, when some of them were teenagers.

Michael Higgins: Guilbeault handwaves Chinese interference while cozying up to Beijing

It is difficult to decide whether Environment and Climate Change Minister Steven Guilbeault’s forthcoming trip to China is the result of extreme naiveté or outsized egotism.

More likely it is a factor of the two, so perhaps he is guilty of egotistical naiveté.

As part of his mission to save the world, Guilbeault is jetting off to Beijing later this month to talk about climate change.

Once you realize Guilbeault is a ChiCom asset his campaign to destroy Canada’s prosperity makes sense.

Progressive insurance sued for ‘patently unlawful’ racism by offering $25,000 grants to help black-owned businesses buy vehicles, but ruling out whites, Asians, Latinos, and others

Progressive insurance has been sued for ‘patently unlawful’ racism by offering $25,000 grants to help black-owned businesses buy vehicles — but barring white, Asian, Latino, and other entrepreneurs from applying.

The lawsuit was filed by the conservative group America First Legal (AFL) and others on behalf of Nathan Roberts, the owner of Ohio-based Freedom Truck Dispatch, who couldn’t apply because he’s white.

Progressive, which is known for its quirky adverts, did not answer DailyMail.com’s requests for comment. They have said the grants were there to help black-owned firms that have historically struggled to access capital.

Chief says excavation of Manitoba church basement found no evidence of human remains

No evidence of human remains has been found during the excavation of a Catholic church basement on the site of a former Manitoba residential school.

Chief Derek Nepinak of Minegoziibe Anishinabe shared the results of the four-week excavation in a social media video Friday. He said the outcome takes “nothing away from the difficult truths experienced by our families who attended the residential school in Pine Creek.”

Fourteen anomalies were detected using ground-penetrating radar in the basement of the church on the site of the former Pine Creek Residential School last year. Survivors had spoken about “horror stories” in the basement.

Microsoft pulls article recommending Ottawa Food Bank to tourists

Microsoft has removed an article that advised tourists to visit the “beautiful” Ottawa Food Bank on an empty stomach, after facing ridicule about the company’s reliance on artificial intelligence for news.

But an unnamed Microsoft spokesperson later blamed the article’s publication on “human error,” rather than “unsupervised AI.”

Published last week and titled “Headed to Ottawa? Here’s what you shouldn’t miss!” the article listed 15 must-see attractions for visitors to the capital.

I don’t see what’s wrong. Ottawa has little to recommend it.
