Lithium Prices Surge to Record High, Threatening to Push Up Expensive EV Costs Even Higher

The price of lithium carbonate, the key material used to make electric car batteries, has continued to skyrocket, tripling in the past year.

The valuable mineral is mainly processed in communist China, which has a monopoly on the battery market.

Lithium carbonate prices in China hit $71,315 a ton on Sept. 16, according to data from Asian Metal Inc.

Christians ‘Face Routine Torture’ in Afghanistan

The estimated 15,000-20,000 Christians who remain in Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover “face routine torture and persecution from both the government and their own friends, families and communities,” according to a new report.

This is not a new development. From the start on August 15, 2021, matters significantly worsened for Christians when the Biden administration abruptly surrendered Afghanistan to the Taliban. The poorly-planned defeat of U.S. troops caused the Central Asian nation to fall right back into the grips of the Taliban, one of the Islamic terrorist groups complicit in the 9/11 attacks on the U.S.

GOLDSTEIN: Technology, not taxes, best way to fight climate change

Life comes at you fast when it comes to global energy issues.

It comes so fast that Canada has already missed the boat on adding billions of dollars of economic growth to our economy every year, increasing global energy security and lowering global greenhouse gas emissions linked to climate change.

The Liberals have done great harm to Canadians on so many fronts it’s difficult to single out one as the worst.

Data Dive with Nik Nanos: Pierre Poilievre heralds a new era for the Conservatives

People struggling to pay the rent or mortgage, or unable to make a necessary purchase are not worried about trying something different when it comes to government

It was a crushing first ballot victory for Conservative leadership hopeful Pierre Poilievre. But this win does not mean what most people think.

The first leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, Stephen Harper, presided over the unification of the Canadian Alliance (formerly known as the Reform Party of Canada) and the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada. Mr. Harper was focused on making the merger work and building a coalition to challenge the Liberals.

Leading Pollster: GOP Voters Will Be ‘Virtually Impossible To Poll’ After Biden’s ‘MAGA Republicans’ Attacks

A leading independent pollster said Saturday that polls might seriously undercount Republican voters in the current political climate.

In a Twitter thread, Trafalgar Group chief pollster Robert C. Cahaly said that President Joe Biden’s recent attacks on so-called “MAGA Republicans” will make polling supporters of former President Donald Trump even harder to poll than in previous years. Cahaly pointed out that in the last two presidential election cycles, name-calling and threats from prominent Democrats contributed to the phenomenon of the “shy Trump voter.” But as the 2022 midterms have begun in earnest, Biden’s escalating rhetoric against Trump supporters, accusing them of embracing “semi-fascism” and being a threat to America, will make these voters even harder to reach in polling.

Michael Taube: How Pierre Poilievre can become Canada’s next prime minister

Pierre Poilievre’s victory in the Sept. 10 Conservative leadership vote was a seminal moment for the party and the Conservative political movement. It was the first sign in years that Conservatives are focused, united and ready to take on Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau — and beat him.

Lots of very positive things happening but … we likely have 3 years till the next election and I doubt Junior’s handlers will allow him to call an early one now.

“We warned you about Ken Burns misusing the Holocaust. Martha’s Vineyard is Auschwitz?”

Martha’s Vineyard to migrants: Get off my lawn!

So illegal migrants crossing over from Mexico are Holocaust Survivors and Martha’s Vineyard is Auschwitz?

We said it days ago in the column “Beware hidden messages in Ken Burns’ US and the Holocaust.

In it, we expressed concern that his three-part series, running on PBS as of Sunday, Sept. 18, is at once a thorough examination of America’s misbehavior against the Jews during the Holocaust, but also, for Burns, a chance to turn the migrants into Jews, Trump into Hitler, and Republicans into Nazis…foremost, Texas governor Greg Abbott, and, by way of Texas, Florida governor Ron DeSantis.

Why the World Economic Forum’s Plutocracy Should Be Dissolved

A previous essay highlighted the serious threats posed by the World Economic Forum’s “Great Reset” to individual liberty, human innovation, and general prosperity. It is important to expand discussion of these threats by examining the inherent dangers to free nations when so much wealth is concentrated in the hands of so few.

No matter how noble its stated intentions, the “Great Reset” is at its heart a program for driving political power away from individual citizens and toward the controlling interests of a small international class of financial elites. This shift in society’s balance of power has fundamentally changed the relationship between Western citizens and their national governments. For citizens to reclaim power, they must not only embrace the basics of free markets once again but also rekindle a fondness for questioning the motivations of political authorities.

Russia’s underperforming military capability may be key to its downfall

Viewed purely in terms of the size of their formations and equipment, Russian ground forces in Ukraine still pose a serious threat on a number of axes. In practice, however, it is highly unlikely the Russian military can recover from its increasingly terminal trajectory on the battlefield, though its defeat will take time and bitter fighting. To understand why, it is necessary to examine the force beyond its equipment and personnel.

The US assesses military capability through the abbreviation DOTMLPF. That senior US officers regularly try to roll this off the tongue as an acronym may exemplify military absurdity, but the abbreviation is somewhat redeemed by being fairly comprehensive. It stands for: doctrine, organisation, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel and facilities. Looking at the Russian military across these categories reveals why it is underperforming its potential and struggling to regenerate.

Corruption, poor morale in a conscript army that either doesn’t know or believe why or for what it’s fighting, antiquated and or poorly designed equipment.

That’s a lot of crap to surmount.

Will the Russians be able to recover as they did in WW II? The Finns walloped them early but then succumbed to sheer weight of numbers.

They eventually defeated the Germans with a horrific sacrifice of men and machines but they cannot rely on vast reserves of manpower or lend lease to bail them out as in WW II.

Shorter CBC: Beware BIPOC Kids! Poilievre Is Stranger Danger!

How Pierre Poilievre is winning new support among young, diverse voters

“If you listen to his speeches, it’s very direct, very simple and very relatable for young people who are struggling with inflation issues, who are finding themselves unable to buy a house because things are just too expensive for them,” Park said.

“Some of his messages are very extreme, to be honest, but in a way that satisfies a certain appetite among the Canadian public about a change and an alternative sort of vision that could take them forward and help them plan a new future.”

Who Really Harms Palestinian Kids? What the Media Fails to Report

During Operation Breaking Dawn, the most recent escalation between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Gaza-based US-designated Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terror organization, a senior PIJ commander named Tayseer al-Jabari was killed in an IDF airstrike.

Al-Jabari’s death was covered by media outlets around the world, including the BBC, France 24, Al Jazeera, and ABC News.

The Star Asks: Anger, delusion and distrust – Is Canada’s democracy in decline?

The grievances of conspiracy theorists and “Freedom Convoy” supporters have cast a long shadow across Canadian politics in 2022 — one that hangs over the capital as Parliament returns from its summer recess.

OTTAWA — Anger, delusion and distrust: ingredients for a troubled democracy — and you can find all three in a darkened shed behind the deconsecrated church of St. Brigid’s.
One morning in late August, Brian Derksen strode into that shed with his little dog, Eli. Derksen wore a leather jacket, and the sunglasses pushed into his grey hair had bright orange flames on the armbands.

By now, the 59-year-old with the gruff voice is recognizable as a proud holdout of the so-called “Freedom Convoy” protests that clogged the streets around Parliament Hill last winter. Having dubbed himself “the trucker that never left,” Derksen is a fixture of the movement’s remnants in the capital, a small but chippy group that has settled into a contested tenancy of a historic former Catholic church in Ottawa’s Lowertown.

The Star is working hard today to make sure you know the Convoy=Poilievre=Hitler but worse!
