Russia’s foreign ministry accused Israel on Tuesday of supporting neo-Nazis in Ukraine, further escalating a row which began when Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed Adolf Hitler had Jewish origins.
Israel lambasted Lavrov on Monday, saying his claim – made when talking about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy who is Jewish – was an “unforgivable” falsehood that debased the horrors of the Nazi Holocaust.
Pope says he wants to go to Moscow to meet Putin over Ukraine – paper
VATICAN CITY, May 3 (Reuters) – Pope Francis said in an interview published on Tuesday that he asked for a meeting in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin to try to stop the war in Ukraine but had not received a reply.
The pope also told Italy’s Corriere Della Sera newspaper that Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church, who has given the war his full-throated backing, “cannot become Putin’s altar boy”.

Travellers facing ‘chaotic’ delays as Pearson airport navigates long lines, staffing issues
Several Canadian airports have had frustrated travellers in long lines due to a shortage of security screeners.
Vancouver has seen particularly long waits, with passengers saying they have also missed domestic flights due to security screening delays.
In an email to the CBC News, the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) said it’s making every effort to address the issue — but it can’t find enough workers.
CATSA, which is the federal crown corporation that’s responsible for all passenger security screening, says once it does manage to hire enough staff, it will also take time to train them.

Anti-capitalism protest in Montreal sees police assaulted, windows smashed
Montreal Police spokesperson Veronique Comtois said the protest included seven acts of mischief and four armed assaults on police officers.
Another police spokesperson, Manuel Couture said that the protest began at Place du Canada and that “within minutes,” protesters began using smoke bombs and committing acts of mischief.

Janney Elementary School in Washington, D.C. held a virtual assembly with an anti-racist educator Nov. 30 for students, according to an email from Janney Elementary School’s principal. Doyin Richards, an educator who claims “racism is as American as apple pie and baseball,” taught elementary schoolers about racism and oppression.
Principal Danielle Singh emailed parents informing them that students in grades “Pre-K through third grade participated in the Anti-Racism Fight Club presentation with Doyin Richards.” Students obtained a “fist book” with information on combating racism at home.

Contact tracing apps, for example, have proliferated with at least 120 different apps in used in 71 different states, and 60 other digital contact-tracing measures have been used across 38 countries. There is currently no evidence that contact tracing apps or other methods of digital surveillance have helped to slow the spread of COVID; but as with so many of our pandemic policies, this does not seem to have deterred their use.
