China’s ‘zero Covid’ policy was a mass imprisonment campaign

In one week last December, five members of Guan Yao’s family in Beijing died, including his father, his father-in-law and his grandmother. In an interview with a journalist, Guan, who lives in California, appeared powerless and dejected. Yet – for reasons that anyone from China understands – he chose his words carefully. Avoiding directly mentioning the Chinese government, he referred only to an ambiguous “them”. “It is difficult to understand,” Guan said, “why they abruptly lifted all restrictions.”

His entire tenure shows a lack of judgement …

Trudeau’s Jamaica vacation shows ‘lack of judgment,’ opposition leaders say

Opposition leaders slammed what they called Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s “lack of judgment” Tuesday after it was revealed he spent his Christmas vacation at the Jamaica home of a wealthy donor to the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation.

Radio-Canada reported that Trudeau vacationed at Prospect, a “luxurious estate” with seaside villas owned by the Green family. Alexander and Andrew Green made a large donation to the foundation in 2021 to establish a scholarship in memory of their mother.

Experts Consulted for Public Health Agency Report Say Capitalism, White Supremacy Partly to Blame for Climate Change

… “It’s really about the foundations of our society, the capitalist system, the culture of extraction, and we need to change that. How do we do that?” one expert asked in the report released on April 17.

“If we don’t address capitalism, if we don’t address colonialism, racism, the patriarchy etcetera we are going to tread water for a long time until we eventually drown,” said another.

The report, titled, “What We Heard: Perspectives On Climate Change And Public Health In Canada,” was commissioned by Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam in order to analyze the impact of climate change on the health and well-being of Canadians, as well as to identify “how public health systems need to be strengthened to undertake this work.”

I have always thought Tam was working for the ChiComs for some reason.

Derek H. Burney: Enough is enough of energy absurdity

A line must be drawn between obtuse environmental orthodoxy and the rational need for responsible energy development

Led by Saudi Arabia and Russia, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) recently announced a million-barrel-per-day reduction in oil production, action only cartels can take to limit supply in order to raise prices — the cost to the global economy be damned. It will inevitably lead to higher North American gasoline prices as refineries gear up for peak-driving summer months. Even more damning is that it exposes the inherent fallacy of the anti-energy policies of Canada and the United States, which have two of the largest oil and gas reserves on the planet. Their determination to squelch oil and gas development in the name of climate change gives Saudi Arabia, Russia and other OPEC members the whip hand on prices for key energy supplies and stimulates already high inflation rates. Canada and the U.S. together unwittingly surrender leverage about the price of a resource vital to our economy. Does this make any sense?

Predator’s Paradise

New laws are making California a haven for human trafficking.

On a Saturday night in South Los Angeles, cars pull up and idle along the side streets of Figueroa, high beams ablaze, so that the drivers can get a good look at “the girls.” The women stand three astride in the middle of the street, in pasties and G-string bikinis under fishnet dresses. Draped over their shoulders are unzipped coats; even in temperate L.A., the night’s January chill is biting. In seven-inch Lucite heels, they teeter toward the driver of each car the way you might walk barefoot across gravel. Less than a block away, their pimps keep company on a sidewalk corner, in hoodies and loose jeans, watching their quarry, awaiting the payout. Absent is the one thing that might typically break up the party: a police car.

A surplus of bad ideas.

If Western Civilization Dies, Put It Down as a Suicide

We are in the grip of an ideology that disowns our genius, denounces our success, disdains merit.

A few years ago the then-boss of Goldman Sachs explained to me the main reason he thought the firm had risen to such a dominant position in global investment banking over the previous half century. At the start of that period, banking was still dominated by a blue-blood class. In London especially, where I began my career in finance, the City was a place in which, in a still heavily regulated market, a slot in one of the big institutions was a coveted ticket to a life of riches.

Why Don’t Americans Trust the Biden Administration on Iran?

Biden is in charge of tapioca

An overwhelming majority of American people reportedly do not trust President Joe Biden on Iran’s nuclear deal. After the Biden administration recently issued sanctions waivers allowing Iran and Russia to build nuclear infrastructure, Senator Ted Cruz pointed out, correctly, that “the Biden administration remains obsessed with reentering a nuclear deal with the Iranian regime.”

Fox, Dominion reach $787M settlement over election claims

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Fox and Dominion Voting Systems reached a $787 million settlement Tuesday in the voting machine company’s defamation lawsuit, averting a trial in a case that exposed how the top-rated network chased viewers by promoting lies about the 2020 presidential election.

“The truth matters. Lies have consequences,” Dominion lawyer Justin Nelson said in a news conference outside the courthouse after a judge announced the deal.

Why Toronto’s World Cup deal with MLSE is bad deal for you

Watching a baseball game on TV can provide astounding moments. Sensational fielding, clutch hitting, pinpoint pitching. But nothing was more astounding to me than a promotion they used to run on Blue Jays telecasts way back when.

Viewers were invited to text their votes for player-of-the-game and the people’s choice would win a watch. Voters were told that each text would cost fifty cents. Who in their right mind, I wondered, would pay even fifty cents so a millionaire ballplayer could win a watch?

This was theft, looting the treasury in the last days of a decaying civilization level theft. How anyone could consider this a good deal is beyond reason.
