YouTube Age-Restricts Catholic Disney Documentary

Last month, I stumbled across a story on CNS News about a documentary by the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights called Walt’s Disenchanted Kingdom. As a member of GenX, I watched The Wonderful World of Disney when it came on every Sunday night. It was the last thing I watched before going to bed. And there were a few years in which we saved all of our money for a trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando. We ate a lot of leftovers and skipped plenty of other things, but it was worth it for a few days in the Polynesian or Contemporary Resort and to wander around the Magic Kingdom. Of course, that was the ’70s, not the 2020s. And I’ve read a bio about Walt Disney and another about book about how Disney fared under Michael Eisner. So I was interested enough to spend 50 minutes watching the film.

ChatGPT, Bing, DALL-E: AI comes for the creative class

Artists fight back as deep-learning models threaten their livelihoods.

When Jason M. Allen entered a fine art competition at the Colorado State Fair, he wasn’t just trying to win — he wanted to make a point.

Allen is a video game designer. His submission, titled “Théâtre D’opéra Spatial,” was a baroque phantasmagoria depicting three gowned figures illuminated by the light of a large open window. After the artwork took first place, in August 2022, Allen posted about how it had been created using Midjourney, an artificial intelligence program capable of converting textual descriptions into full-blown images. Allen said he had made it clear when he submitted the piece that it had been created using the AI tool.

Why is the Biden Admin Not Revealing the Chemicals in the East Palestine Disaster?

East Palestine Ohio

A basic question.

The Biden administration has been stonewalling its East Palestine chemical disaster from the beginning. Transportation Secretary Buttigieg took ten days to even comment on it in the most cursory fashion. East Palestine’s mayor stated that no one had reached out to him from the Biden White House until a day before a public event. And residents are still not being told the truth or given basic factual information.

What’s driving Britain’s anti-migrant protests? – Anxiety over immigration isn’t fuelled by racism

Last week, after a demonstration against the housing of refugees in a Knowsley hotel turned violent, many on the Left were quick to denounce the protestors as fascists or racists, and to lay the blame on Suella Braverman for warning of a migrant “invasion”. There were more protests across the UK at the weekend; no doubt a similar response will follow.

New data reveals nationwide desire for lower immigration

New UnHerd Britain polling today reveals the strength of opposition across Britain to current levels of immigration: 57% of Britons agree with the statement “Immigration levels are too high”, compared to just 20% who disagree.

China’s Balloons Draw Attention to an Overlooked Canada-U.S. Partnership

The interest in balloons, other than the party and clown varieties, has recently reached levels perhaps not seen in Canada since the 19th century.

It all began, of course, with a giant Chinese surveillance balloon that floated above British Columbia before drifting around the United States and ultimately being blown up by the United States Air Force over the Atlantic. Since then, three other objects have met a similar fate including one brought down over Yukon and another shot down above Lake Huron.

City attempts to quell LGBTQ+ community’s concern about future plan for Hanlan’s Point

The beach at Hanlan’s Point on the Toronto Islands has served as a gathering place for the city’s LGBTQ+ community for decades, but some are worried that could soon be at risk.

A dozen people recently formed a group called Hands Off Hanlan’s to sound the alarm about the city’s master plan for the islands — a long-term planning document that’s still under development. The plan is meant to guide decisions about the future of the area, which sees close to 1.5 million visitors per year.

In northern Norway’s bitter cold, the durability of electric vehicles is put to the test

… In Finland, Ståle Frydenlund, test manager for the electric vehicle association, locked five new models into the proving ground’s cold chambers overnight and set the thermometer for -40 degrees. When he returned the next morning, the results were not particularly reassuring. Three of the vehicles – Kia Niro EV, Nissan Ariya and MG4 Electric – could not drive out of the chamber on their own power.

“We had to put the gear levers in neutral and push the cars out,” said Mr. Frydenlund.

The true believers interviewed for this article try desperately to put lipstick on a pig.

Inside the Hunt for U.F.O.s at the End of the World

DEADHORSE, Alaska — Really? That’s it?

The United States military is capable of many things, but finding the remnants of an unidentified flying object scattered across a blinding expanse of Arctic ice in minus-30-degree weather using six available hours of daylight is not one of them.

The search for a downed U.F.O. began and ended near this oil-camp town at the frozen edge of the world, where Navy pilots flying P-8 Poseidons finally gave up on Friday, ending their mission with no answers.

What Killed Tyre Nichols

His fatal torture was a tragic culmination—not of racism, but of the racism-in-policing narrative.

Is U.S. policing in a death spiral? Yes, as long as the fatal beating of Tyre Nichols by five Memphis police officers is portrayed as a manifestation of racism. The problems underlying that horrifying episode—the recruitment crisis, lax hiring standards, and depolicing—will worsen, intensified by the very policies ostensibly adopted to prevent another such travesty. The vicious circle of rising crime and a flight from the profession will accelerate.

The splashback scandal: should all men sit down to urinate?

In German, there’s a word for one. Of course there is. In German, there’s a word for everything. But this is an especially excellent word: Sitzpinkler. You can probably guess what it means even if you don’t speak German: a Sitzpinkler is a man who sits to pee.

We have German friends: Flora, Till, their two boys. Flora confirms that the males in the house are encouraged to sit at home, as is common throughout the country. Some German bathrooms have amusing signs reminding men to sit. There’s even a device called a WC-Geist – toilet ghost – that lives under the seat and, when the seat is lifted, orders you to sit down. You can get a WC-Geist with the voice of Angela Merkel. Germany is a brilliant country.

Bitter Don Lemon isn’t sorry for sexist remarks and clearly doesn’t like women

The problem with Don Lemon is that nobody has ever told him he’s not as good as he thinks he is.

He’s handsome and works in an industry that can inflate even the most constrained egos. Clearly, the CNN anchor has no constraints. He has allowed his ego to grow bigger than a Chinese weather balloon.

We are watching in real time the inevitable process of cutting Lemon down to size.
