It’s not just internal-combustion the true environmentalist wants banned, but all cars

If you think someone is out to get you, does that automatically make you paranoid? It’s a question I asked myself repeatedly as I wrote last week’s “Is the anti-car movement winning?” column. In writing about something as controversial as Paris banning privately owned automobiles from its streets, the important thing was to determine the depth of the anti-car movement without heading down some conspiracy theory rabbit hole. Is there really a movement to rid the world of cars? How evolved is it? And how far should I go in decrying its toxic psychology?

Franco Terrazzano: O’Toole now has a serious credibility problem

In politics, nothing is more important than credibility. Politicians can deliver stirring speeches and launch searing attack ads, but if they don’t tell the truth, nobody believes any of it. And, one way or another, voters will hold them accountable.

I don’t agree. Despite flip flopping on major issues like the carbon tax O”Toole still did OK. I believe the election result will convince the CPC “braintrust” to maintain their leftward trajectory in hope of capturing eastern urban voters. Losing a chunk of the base will be considered just the cost of doing business.

Pro-lifers could never get away with this

‘What actions are you recommending for the pro-life movement?’ the New Yorker Radio Hour host asks his guest, a tenured university professor and author of How to Blow Up an Abortion Clinic.

‘Well,’ the guest replies, ‘I am recommending that the movement continue with the March for Life and crisis pregnancy centers but also open up for property destruction. We need to step up because so little has changed and so many babies are still being killed. So, I am in favor of destroying machines and property, not harming people. I think property can be destroyed in all manner of ways. It can be neutralized in a very gentle fashion, or in a more spectacular fashion as in potentially blowing up an abortion clinic.’

Another Racist Hoax Is Solved

The superintendent said the culprit’s race “does not diminish the hurt it caused.”

Ablack student at Parkway Central High School in Chesterfield, Missouri, admitted to writing racist graffiti in a school bathroom, including a slur against black people, school district officials said Tuesday.

Students at multiple high schools in the St. Louis area walked out of class last week to protest the messages.

Anything to maintain perpetual victimhood.

Smith & Wesson announces move to Tennessee from Massachusetts – where it has been headquartered since 1856 – because of BAN on production of assault rifles

Famed gunmaker Smith & Wesson will leave its historic 165-year-old headquarters in Massachusetts for a new home base in gun-friendly Tennessee, saying proposed legislation in the deep Blue state to ban manufacturing of assault weapons would devastate its bottom line.

The company announced Thursday that it will build a new $120million facility in Maryville by 2023 and eventually shutter the Springfield location that forged famed firearms like the .357 magnum – used by Clint Eastwood in the Dirty Harry movies.

However, anti-gun sentiment in the state – sparked by mass shootings involving assault weapons – has been on the rise. The purchase of military-style assault rifles in the state has been banned since 2004, but the manufacturing and distribution of the weapons – which account for 60 percent of sales, according to the company – has remained.

Who Cares?

At the risk of putting a target on my back, it has occurred to me that the proper response for much of the anti-Israel activity on and off campus should be a combination of derision, counter-attack and neglect. I’ve been dealing with anti-Semitism, Israel denial and Middle East issues since my college days and, after more than 40 years, I have concluded that too much time, money, and energy is being spent responding to the latter.

Instead, we should simply say, “who cares?”

When lawyers for the estate of murdered billionaires Barry and Honey Sherman asked a judge to seal probate files in 2018, they warned the court of “risks of violence and kidnapping” to heirs and the estate trustees if the files became public.

That specific written warning was footnoted to a sealed court document known until recently only as the “affidavit of AB.”

But now that the mysterious affidavit has been unsealed by the Supreme Court of Canada, one thing is clear: The words “violence” and “kidnapping” were never there.

Professor suspended for refusing to give Black students easier final exams sues UCLA

A UCLA professor who was briefly suspended after declining a request that Black students get easier final exams after George Floyd’s death sued the school Wednesday, accusing it of defamation and loss of financial opportunities.

Gordon Klein, a lecturer at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management who has taught there for decades, filed the lawsuit in state court against the school’s dean, Antonio Bernardo, the University of California Board of Regents, and a host of unnamed “co-conspirators.”

He made the comment about former Canadian First Lady Margaret Trudeau to Grisham during an Air Force One flight, according to an excerpt released Friday.

‘Once, on Air Force One, I was sitting with him in his cabin, and for whatever reason — maybe he had just read something or seen his face on TV — Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau popped into the president’s head,’ Grisham writes.

University of Chicago professor satirizes abortion supporters in Telegram poetry group

A University of Chicago medievalist has formed a social media poetry group that trains writers to mock “woke politics,” including abortion supporters, as part of what she calls a bid to save Western civilization through preserving the English language.

Professor Rachel Fulton Brown, a medieval history professor at the Chicago school since 1994, said she set the group up on Telegram in summer 2020 with 10 people who soon set to work on lampooning abortion backers.

A welcome relief.
