After Nevada Democratic Party Chair Judith Whitmer won her seat Saturday, party executive Alana Mounce sent her an email announcing the entire staff was quitting, The Intercept reported. Those who quit en masse included every employee and their consultants, each of whom took severance checks with them, according to the Intercept.
Representative James Clyburn (D-S.C.), whom many credit with helping President Biden win the South Carolina primary, is saying the quiet part out loud about HR-1. Also called the “For the People Act,” and emotionally tied to the late Rep. John Lewis, HR-1 would gut nearly every election security measure used nationwide. It mandates things such as ballot harvesting and prohibits measures such as voter ID at the federal level. It essentially takes all power away from the state legislatures to define election law, despite the fact that it is a power given to them specifically in the Constitution.
So far, 2021 has been pretty bad for New York’s Democratic governor, Andrew Cuomo. Last year was so great for him. Sure, thousands in his state were dying of COVID—with millions more suffering from lockdowns. But, shoot, Cuomo wrote a book about how great he is!
All that changed when a flood of allegations rocked his administration. Reports leaked that his top aides covered up the number of deaths at nursing homes. Then, a tidal wave of sexual harassment claims came out. Now, rumors are coming out about the infrastructure projects.
On Wednesday, House Democrats passed an 800-page bill that would mandate insecure voting processes and subject voting tallies to partisan manipulation. It’s a slap in the face to the half of Americans, including many Democrats, who believe the 2020 election was riddled with fraud and errors, largely due to the rapid expansion of mail-in balloting and other suspensions of state election laws.
If you think Congress and the federal government do an efficient, honest job at the various missions they are tasked with, then you will likely support the Democrats’ proposed Election Reform law that would transfer election authority from states to the federal government.
“For the People Act of 2021” has already been passed by the House and requires Senate approval to become law.
It would codify once and for all many of the state-level changes implemented without state legislative approval just ahead of the contested 2020 presidential election.
Supporters say it implements important reforms that lift barriers to voting. Opponents say it opens the door more widely to fraud and abuse.
