It’s bad enough when someone actually thinks reposting an “I Stand With…” meme is an act of woke resistance. But when the problem is enlarged to a societal scale, it hurts us all. Nothing actually broken ever gets fixed, and a deep sense of cynicism is injected into once-believers when they realize they’ve been conned. We live inside a con job where the appearance of action is mistaken for action.

The books in question were by Canadian lawyer Marie Henein and former ISIS captive Nadia Murad. Both books are memoirs and both were supposedly out-of-bounds for impressionable young minds because Henein was Jian Ghomeshi’s lawyer and Murad’s book could serve to foster Islamophobia.

What happens when we as a society elevate race above other traits and accomplishments? Rather than embellishing a resume to add extra experience or to show a higher level of competence, we see that some people instead embellish their innate characteristics.

The name “Orwell” crops up in any such discussion, as does the word “Newspeak,” that twisted mode of language that Orwell outlined in the appendix to Nineteen Eighty-Four. The goal of Newspeak, Orwell said, was to replace standard English with a sharply diminished patois whose linguistic poverty was its prime political advantage. By reducing the suppleness of language, the elites who controlled society hoped also to reduce dissent — not only the activity of dissent, but also the thoughts and emotions that guided it.
Make no mistake: Wokeness is a religion. It has all the sick hallmarks of a cult, more specifically, but it’s a mainstream one with support from institutional power.

Sears has been denounced by Democrats and woke hacks as the black face of white supremacy, as a token black witlessly doing the bidding of evil white men. She’s been depicted as a wide-eyed dupe of political ideologies she probably doesn’t even understand. This is woke racism in action, where any member of an ethnic minority that refuses to bow and scrape to the identitarian script is viciously written off as a dumb Uncle Tom.
