The Church of Facebook is set to capture the human soul in silicon. On July 25, the New York Times reported that since 2017 the social media giant has quietly cultivated exclusive partnerships with select religious communities. As always, money is involved.
While Facebook’s ultimate goals remain sealed behind non-disclosure agreements, the Times article does hint at things to come: “The company aims to become the virtual home for religious community, and wants churches, mosques, synagogues and others to embed their religious life into its platform, from hosting worship services and socializing more casually to soliciting money.”

Methodist church leaders have formed a new denomination – called the Global Methodist Church (GMC) – and filed for formal separation from the UMC over the latter’s growing acceptance of modern teachings on sexuality and gender.

The secular media want you to believe it is. But recent surveys show something different.
Bracketing Easter and Passover, the Washington Post headline was meant to shock: “Religious membership in U.S. falls below 50%, poll finds,” the lowest since 1937, citing a just-published Gallup poll and media release with a similar title.
But Gallup also published that same day a release with the title “Religiosity Largely Unaffected by Events of 2020 in U.S.”
Scholars rightly take umbrage when pundits and activists exploit their work for political purposes. The latest example, at least in religious circles, is the way in which a new book, “Secular Surge: A New Fault Line in American Politics,” is being received by militant secularists.
At an environmental forum, Julian Simon once asked: “How many people here believe that the earth is increasingly polluted and that our natural resources are being exhausted?”
After a roomful of hands shot up, Simon then asked: “Is there any evidence that could dissuade you?” Encountering silence, he followed up: “Is there any evidence I could give you—anything at all—that would lead you to reconsider these assumptions?”
After more silence, Simon answered: “Well, excuse me. I’m not dressed for church.”
Some of these so-called vaccines are derived from aborted babies. Ethically, this presents a series of problems, mostly for bishops who must advise their flock, as is their vocation.
That sort of discernment is most troublesome for a government that has been used to being morally and politically corrupt and inept:

The bishops suggested that Catholics should “prefer” the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines because they are more “morally acceptable” than those being produced by AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.
