The Liberals are facing heavy criticism from Ukraine for exempting six Siemens Energy turbines, which were serviced in Montreal and help deliver gas to parts of Germany, from sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters in a teleconference after a meeting of G-20 finance ministers in Bali, Indonesia, Freeland said she understood Ukraine’s response but defended the government’s move as the right one to make under the circumstances.

“That was a very difficult decision for Canada and I understand the concern that Ukraine has about it, but it was the right thing to do,” Freeland said.

Twenty years ago there was a famous marketing campaign featuring a jolly banker named “Howard” dancing and singing about the allegedly great advantages of being with the Halifax building society. Last month the Halifax hit the news for a less happy marketing gimmick. Customers were no longer being invited to answer the question, “Who gives you extra?” Nor was there any other question or invitation. Just an assertion, “Pronouns matter”, followed by the hashtag “It’s a people thing”. Below was a photograph of a name badge of a Halifax staff member called “Gemma” with pronouns listed below. In this case “She/ her/ hers”.

Twitter reinstated a doctor it recently suspended for sharing a study that showed Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine impacts semen.

Dr. Andrew Bostom was informed late July 14 that access to his account was restored.

“After further review, we have unsuspended your account as it does not appear to be in violation of the Twitter Rules,” the message from Twitter stated.

Ballet has been dropped from auditions at leading dance schools as staff say it is rooted in “white European ideas”.

The Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD), which aims to be a “progressive institution”, has reviewed the “elitist” art form as part of a diversity drive that has seen the introduction of new policies relating to gender and race.

Ballet has been ditched as a requirement for school-entry auditions because of its “contentious nature”, with teaching staff explaining that the traditional mode of dance comes with the baggage of “white European ideas”.

Russia’s Gazprom says no sign of Nord Steam 1 turbine

The Russian gas supplier Gazprom said Saturday it had asked German engineering company Siemens for details about the return of a turbine — under maintenance in Canada — to ensure the delivery of gas from the Nord Stream pipeline to Europe.

Gazprom is conducting maintenance on the pipeline over a 10-day period and has stopped delivering gas through the conduit, which runs beneath the Baltic Sea.

Justin Trudeau’s new much-shorter haircut is compared to Jim Carrey’s bowl cut in Dumb and Dumber

Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was seen sporting a fresh haircut after he cancelled a visit to a brewery in Ottawa amid protests.

Mr Trudeau was pictured visiting children at a day camp in Gatineau Park in Quebec with much shorter hair than usual earlier this week.

Those used to his longer locks were somewhat surprised to see him sporting the trim, which he debuted to the world wearing a plain white shirt and jeans amid visits to the park and two Ottawa suburbs.
