Memorial Day traditionally marks the beginning of summer and a time for patriotic remembrance of our fallen war dead and, for many of us, fallen family members, many of whom were veterans. I have been thinking of the five sons of Victor Sowers, Sr., my mother’s brothers, all of whom served in World War II and returned, while pondering the parlous state of the military today.
Apparently, higher education in America has been so poisoned by the radical left that condemning a rise in physical attacks on innocent American Jews is now forbidden — unless one simultaneously indicates support for the very cause being advocated by the groups most prominent in the current attacks.
Liberal activists say they want a “conversation about a race” — they’ve been saying that for decades — but they rarely ever get around to explicitly stating what the point of that conversation is.
Washington Post liberal writer Christine Emba got sort of close, though. She wrote Wednesday that conservatives oppose critical race theory being taught in public schools, not because there’s anything wrong with it academically (though of course there is) but because it “might result in a real rethinking of the order of things, which might result in culpability, which might result in recognition that recompense is needed.”
There it is. Compensation. She also suggests “racial accountability.”

The Spanish postal service has introduced a set of skin-toned stamps: the darker the stamp, the lower the value. Though aimed at defending “diversity, inclusion and equal rights,” the campaign has been mocked as “tone deaf.”

In the year since the death of George Floyd, Hollywood has churned out 127 episodes of various TV shows promoting either “systemic racism,” BLM, or defunding the police.

Famously the “whitest city in America,” Portland has become the unlikely headquarters of race radicalism in the United States. The city has elevated white guilt into a civic religion; its citizens have developed rituals, devotions, and self-criticisms to fight “systemic racism” and “white supremacy.” The culminating expression of this orthodoxy is violence: street militias, calling themselves “antiracists” and “antifascists,” smash windows and torch the property of anyone transgressing the new moral law.
All New York City employees are now required to sit through a remarkably predictable video explaining the creative nuances of gender identity, as part of mandated sexual harassment training.
The instructional footage is part of an online sexual harassment prevention training module created by the NYC Commission on Human Rights. All city employees are required by law to take the instructional course.
In Biden’s America, treating people differently based on the colour of their skin is back on the agenda.

Shopify, the largest publicly-traded company in Canada, laid down the law about employees demanding “woke” corporate virtue signaling, issuing a fiery memo reminding employees that they were there to sell products, and that anyone who was focused on other things during the day should not expect to keep their job.

A source within the Biden State Department wishing to remain anonymous has shared with Human Events News a document that indicates that all U.S. “Diplomatic and Consular posts” are being encouraged to display shows of support for Black Lives Matter on Tuesday, May 25, the one-year anniversary of George Floyd’s death. The memo reads in part, “The Department supports the use of the term ‘Black Lives Matter’ in messaging content, speeches, and other diplomatic engagements with foreign audiences to advance racial equity and access to justice on May 25 and beyond (italics added) We encourage posts to focus on the need to eliminate systemic racism and its continued impact.”
Julius Haag, a sociology and criminology professor at the University of Toronto, told CTV’s Your Morning on Tuesday that no Canadian cities have successfully defunded their police force to date. However, he says there continues to be some momentum to potentially do so in certain regions.
