Taxpayers to Foot Bill for Military ‘Transgender’ Surgeries

Buried inside one of Joe Biden’s record-breaking stack of January executive orders and actions was a clause repealing an Obama-era policy that prohibited taxpayer funding of “gender-reassignment” surgery. In Biden’s EO, dubiously titled “Enabling All Qualified Americans to Serve Their Country in Uniform,” is the provision that the government (read: taxpayers) will foot the bill for any active-duty military personnel and veterans seeking to “transition” genders.

“Health Minister” Whines That Canadian Bishops Are Making a Note of Morally Sketchy Flu Shots

Some of these so-called vaccines are derived from aborted babies. Ethically, this presents a series of problems, mostly for bishops who must advise their flock, as is their vocation.

That sort of discernment is most troublesome for a government that has been used to being morally and politically corrupt and inept:

Health Minister Christian Dubé has criticized the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops over its vaccine advice.

The bishops suggested that Catholics should “prefer” the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines because they are more “morally acceptable” than those being produced by AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.

It’s Just Money

There is plenty to printed or taxed:

Tax write-offs cost more than $3.3 billion last year, an increase of millions over 2019, according to an internal Canada Revenue Agency audit. The report disclosed the Agency typically “stockpiled” unrecoverable taxes for write-downs: “An uncollectible amount can be written off at any time.”

A bill to expand carbon tax exemptions for farmers is crucial as cabinet hikes rates every year until 2030, the Commons agriculture committee was told yesterday. “Farmers are struggling now,” said Conservative MP Philip Lawrence (Northumberland-Peterborough South, Ont.), sponsor of the bill.

To be filed under “Justin Trudeau Is An Arrogant Piece of Crap“:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau yesterday would not set any date for a federal budget, the first since 2019. Trudeau told reporters pandemic management was a greater priority: “Of all the money invested in helping Canadians get through this pandemic, eight or nine of every ten dollars has come from the federal government.”

Norman Bethune Wasn’t a Good Doctor Nor Is He a Hero

But don’t take my word for it.

Blacklock’s Reporter, an Ottawa-based news site focused on government business, reports that Parks Canada will use Mandarin-language services at Bethune Memorial House in Gravenhurst, Ontario as part of a bid to  “move visitors, volunteers and partners to act as proud ambassadors of Bethune’s values, achievements and humanitarian ideals” and “introduce Parks Canada to a broader audience, in particular of Chinese descent.” Noting that Bethune’s birthplace is one of Canada’s least-visited national historic sites, it hopes to have it recognized by 2027 as “a place of inspiration.” …

He remained relatively obscure in Canada until former prime minister Pierre Trudeau — who had a soft spot for strongmen like Mao and Cuban dictator Fidel Castro — visited China in 1973. The government bought the Bethune house the same year, turning it over to Parks Canada as a national historic site. Bethune has since become the sort of figure who — like James Naismith or the Mad Trapper of Rat River —  gets immortalized in official Canadiana as evidence we do indeed have a fascinating past filled with interesting people.

Royal Family is Finally Providing Bang for the Buck

I’m from Canada, part of the British Commonwealth. It’s estimated that the royal family costs each of us in the Commonwealth $1.58 in U.S. dollars per year. The question for those paying taxes to the monarchy has always been whether we’re getting our money’s worth. Now that certain family members are putting on a show that costs far less than a monthly Netflix subscription, perhaps the answer is finally yes.

Whistleblower: Biden’s FAA Forcing Air Traffic Controllers to Wear Masks While Speaking to Pilots, Causing Serious Read-Back Errors

The whistleblower noted that posters have gone up where he works that say “mask up for the mission,” and his supervisors are now insisting that they keep the masks on while speaking with pilots.

“For context, our headsets use a boom microphone that adjusts to fit somewhere an inch or two away from our face. It has created an issue where we get a lot more read-back errors from pilots on instructions because they can’t hear us clearly over the radio,” he explained.

Hollywood and media workers cut vaccine line, causing clinic closure: Health officials

Pasadena, California, officials canceled a coronavirus vaccine clinic after hundreds of ineligible media and Hollywood workers signed up for appointments, they said.

Elderly residents and local workers were jumped over by around 900 appointment slots as media workers who did not yet qualify for the vaccine left only 600 empty slots open for eligible vaccine recipients, the Pasadena Public Health Department said Tuesday.

Derek H. Burney: Canada is caught in a perfect storm of dysfunction. Muddling through is not the answer

Today, Canada faces a perfect storm of dysfunction at various government levels and with key Canadian institutions. Muddling through is not the answer. The public is increasingly frustrated over the inability of governments to manage the pandemic. Trust is at a low ebb and no one really knows who or what to believe. Beyond the impact of the virus itself, consequences are spiralling downwards for the economy, the budget, public education and the mental health of Canadians of all ages.

Legal challenge launched seeking end to government quarantine hotels

The Canadian Constitution Foundation (CCF) is launching a legal challenge to the Trudeau government’s mandatory quarantine hotels.

In a statement on Monday, the CCF said it will argue that forcing people to stay in quarantine hotels and pay out of pocket violates the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The CCF is joining five individuals who were forced to stay in quarantine hotels after travelling abroad for compassionate reasons, such as attending a funeral or attending to a spouse who received surgery abroad.
